I installed the new BOINC version this morning, and SETI is still not updating for me either. I don't read their forum, but I'm sure it will sort itself out soon enough.

Ewolff, I know what you mean about BOINC being a hog. I use a couple of my Brand D machines for it, not my Alien baby--but you can set your preferences to keep it in check:

Do work while computer is running on batteries?
Do work while computer is in use?
Do work only after computer is idle for xx minutes
Do work only between the hours of (xxx)
Leave applications in memory while preempted?
(suspended applications will consume swap space if 'yes')
Switch between applications every xxx(recommended: 60 minutes)
On multiprocessors, use at most x processors
Use no more than xxx disk space
Leave at least xxx disk space free
Use no more than xx% of total disk space
Write to disk at most every xx seconds
Use no more than xx% of total virtual memory

...just in case you decide to give BOINC another try!

Is BOINC working? I used to run this at work all the time but since changing jobs a few weeks ago I stopped. I just tried installing it on my Aurora and when I try connecting to the project I get a message that the project is unavailable. Anybody else having trouble?

Sorry, I just noticed your post. Right now BOINC SETI is saying 'no work available' so that's probably why you're getting the error. I don't run it on my main machine, but I'll keep an eye out for new incoming work.

Got some new work around 3 am...so hopefully if you try and attach to the project there will still be some WU's available.

did they shut down BOINC? or just the classic?

They shut down the classic. I just got mine running again on BOINC.

Thought this might be pretty interesting to you all :

I've already signed up for pre-registration. I wonder how diffucult the web-based training wil be.

I need to reinstall SETI -- it's been a while since I've ran it. I'll do that tonight most likely.

Welcome aboard, mb! It seems fitting that an Alienware person should be the one who finds an alien...so I hope it's one of us who does!

Thanks. It's kind of a neat project.

Forgive me for asking, but I have a PoS Dell PC, but I'm planning on getting an Alienware later this year. May I join your team?
sure. but you better get an alienware

Heh, OK!

Edit: guys, we don't have an Alienware team for these projects yet. Since I don't know who to contact to create the "official" team, I'm just going to post this in here.

And for this one there's an "Alien Hardware" team, but it doesn't look like an official team...

A belated welcome to the team, Chode!

1c3d0g, I'd say to talk to PoorBoy, but I haven't seen him around lately, though it would be great if he'd stop in.
