8887 Will not boot

Hey everyone. Ok so heres the deal. I just reformated about a week ago and everything was fine. I installed direct x 9.0 because I wanted to play Need for Speed Underground and this is where I THINK my problems began, maybe not though. I got an occaisonal BSD but it was fine I guess. Then it froze up yesterday and turned it off by holding down the big silver button. Then I go to boot and nothing. The fans kick on and the cd drive can be opened and what not but apart from that I get nothing. No BIOS...nothing. My friend thinks my screen died but I don't know. So yeah....help?

Similar things have been happening to me. I reformatted/reinstalled and was getting way too many OS freezes. Apparently the order in which I did things, along with a couple other things, probably caused this. Check this thread for more info and maybe you'll see some tips.

If the screen were the problem, it would not keep you from being able to boot up. But plug in a CRT and try it if you want to see for yourself.

Are you still under warranty?

If not, then I would open it up and see if theres anything loose in there.

Do you move it around alot or does it sit in one place most of the time?

When I turn it on it doesn't even go to the BIOS or show the POST screen thing. So I am not really able to reformat since this is the case. And I did plug in an external monitor and I got nothing.

I'm guessing since you have an 8887 it's not under warranty. Try giving Sager a call. They're pretty helpful and know their $#!+.

I would think it would beep a few times if there was no screen (like workstations do when the video card dies)... so it might be a mobo thing.

Mabey the bios chip got zapped when you did the forced power off?

Stranger things have happened to me.

So could I flash the bios? Would that delete/corrupt stuff on my hard drive or make me reformat or anything?
If you can't boot - you can't flash the BIOS. You might try to reset the BIOS. I think that on an 8887 that you need to take out the battery, unplug the A/C, and then depress the power button for about 30 Seconds (I know - there's no power attached; however, I didn't design this sequence). When you are done with that, reconnect the A/C and battery and attempt to power on the machine. Don't know if this will help; however, it certainly wouldn't hurt.

You could try to flash it, but I would wait until your sure thats the prob.
It won't effect your hard drive.

Is the hard drive light flashing when you boot?
It might be booting but you just can't see it.

When you hooked up an external monitor did you leave it on for awhile?
You won't get a picture until windows is almost done loading.

How comfortable are you with opening the case?

Also try playing an audio cd with that auto-dj thing in the front.

i'm having the same problem with my 8887, this looks like a little older post, was there a solution? i'd rather not call sager, last time i did they were very clueless.

The audio dj still works but nothing else. I have a really expensive and big cd player right now...

i have tried calling sager every day this week. no replies back and never anyone there. i guess you sacrifice support for performance.

Did you leave a mesage and a phone number? You might try e-mailing them.

i got it to post!

heres the 2 errors that came up right after the InsydeBios

Code:
WARNING - CMOS CHECKSUM FAILED - RUN SCU
WARNING - KEYBOARD CONTROLLER FAILURE

then it stops dead. rebooting wont bring up the screen again. i have to let it sit for about a day with no power before the screen will come back up.

i'll try emailing sager again.
I finally got to the ctrl + alt + s stage and was able to get into the SCU. Arrow keys didn't work. Navigated by shortcuts and got it to defaults and rebooted. Windows came up and I rebooted again to put the main battery in and now i'm back to square one!

No screen, no beeps, no nothin. Guess i'll wait with the power and battery out so I can try again tomorrow (it seems to only boot when you let it sit for a day) =\

Does anyone know if I could put an intel celeron processor into my 8887. My friend said it was possible but has also fried quite a few motherboards in his day...so what does everyone here think? It's a 2.6 ghz one.
Wise????

Why would you want to "go there"? Your friend reminds me of a "Buddy" of mine in the late 60's. Gunnie Bird Brown - Cracked up more planes than I care to admit, I flew/crashed in. Go to the Intel site and insure that the processors are compatible, if so, it MAY work. Still can't see the "Why?"

The "why" is because I don't want to drop 250 dollars on a new 3.06 processor. And if it is compatible I would be able to find out whether or not my processor is actually fried.

Wisefish,

Did you find out that your proc fried, and thats why it won't boot?

btw- I pushed the power button on my 8880 the other day and nothin happened.

Thought it died and I instantly thought of this thread.

Then I held my breath as I franticly clicked that big silver button.

It finally came on after the 10th or so try.

I feel for you man, good luck.
