E-machines Cracked Hinge *fix* - Page 2

With the lid closed, on the top of the hinge cover near the back edge running "horizontally". There are several pics posted here of them, and most look identical when they crack.

well, crapola there it is

not what you expect from a month old comp.

seems like an official list should be started.
listing all users with it. kinda preparation to a class action deal.
Class action for what? They are accepting full responsibility for it and repairing it at no charge, including overnight shipping.

hmm was reading post that said had emachines was changing to a no cosmetic policy, ( the silly large blue post)

but of course they are taking them back, they have to.
when there is a mass defect like that , eventually the big boys(goverment,& lawyers) will step in and make them, just look at all the car recalls.

now the problem seems to be is how they are replacing them and with what. most of the iniatial replacements have failed again or given back crummy blown pixel lcds.
Again, the LCD is not replaced (same pixels as it leaves your house with) and the parts replaced after in and after august are not defective and eMachines has accepted responsibility for the defect and is replacing 100% of them hassle free and free of charge including shipping.

Do they leave your data alone or is a backup necessary and advised?

Thanks!

They didn't mess with mine, but I would recommend backing up just to make sure.

my broken emachine M5305 Notebook

I sent emachine M5305 Notoebook. Fedex came and picked it up and emachine replaced motherboard, chip, heatsink, and more for $244.00 and it came back to my place in 4 days. They are really good at sending it back to you ASAP

I just bought an M6805 from tiger direct I am currently waiting for it to arrive any problems i should look out for other then the hinges? I am really excited about this notebook I got it for 899.99 with a 100 dollar rebate and the reviews look incredible!!!
Does anyone play C&C Generals on theirs and what upgrades can i do to it??
Coming from Tiger direct, you can almost count on dead/stuck pixels. Also if you are planning to use a USB hub with the machine, check it ASAP. Tiger Direct sells the machines that were returned to Best Buy, often untouched to rectify the problem they were returned for unless it was something that seriously and obviously affected the machine.
yeah it only comes with a 90 day warranty through emachines so i will be testing everything. Are dead pixels grounds for returning the product through emachines? What did you mean about the usb hub are there usb power transfer problems? Any benchmark software I should run like sandra to test everything and make sure its all ok? Should I do a burn in for a few days or would that be bad for the notebook?
There have been some people having problems when using USB 2.0 hubs with their notebooks. I don't know all the details, but there are a couple threads on it. A burn in should be fine. Treat it like a desktop. The heatpipe cooling solution on these machines is very efficient.

Thanks thunder i would like to thank you so much for all your support on the forum I have been reading your thread responses for the last week even though there are problems with the 68XX series you and many other helpful people are looking for answers and that is why i bought my 6805 it is very rare to buy a notebook and have a "cult" following with it. I know I will be pleased with my purchase.

Commops106, just wanted to say think positive! I must be one of the very few lucky people that bought a tigerdirect M6805 and not have any problems maybe you will be lucky also. No dead pixels, no usb problems that I know of, only bad thing is my left hinge is cracking (nothing new about that). Thought i'd give tigerdirect a "little bitty" thumbs up!
thanks wildthang i will be positive, did you get the 1 year warranty tiger offered or did you opt out like me and take your chances with the 90 day? What bios did you flash you 6805 to get xp sp 2 on it? Also do you play command and conquer on it, I am trying to find someone who plays command and conquer cause I really hope this laptop delivers when it comes to playing that.
Commops106, I only went for the 90 day myself. Figured if it was going to die it would do it before 90 days anyway. As for the BIOS, I flashed it to 0F08.P00 as soon as I booted it up the first time and have had no trouble at all. About the games, I haven't played the one you mentioned, I usually just play doom3 or nfsu2. Let me know if I can be of any more help.
yeah I am gonna run sandra as soon as i get it and do a burn in for a few days. This is going to be my first really good laptop all the other ones I have had don't match half of what this one should be able to do. You flashed to the latest bios as soon as you got it? does that void the warranty according to emachines? where can I get the bios and flash info? Also do you know if the mobo can handle running pc3200 ram or does it only support 333 memory bus. I would rather not waste my money on pc2700 memory and instead max it out with pc3200 if the memory bus is 400mhz
post #38 of 39
Flashing the BIOS does void your warrenty but you can flash it back to the original before sending it in and you will be safe. You can get the bios and flash info here. Our lappies can handle 2GB of the pc3200 but you must also change out the ram chip that is inside the case under the keyboard, then you can run at full 400mhz bus.

Wildthang you were right I got the m6805 today in the mail, looks brand new not refurbished wow what a deal!!! Not one dead pixel I was wondering sandra 2005 doesn't offer burn in anymore on the lite version anyone have freeware burnin software? I need to burn this baby in for a few hours.
