Slimmest/lightest + Gaming, $ no object - Page 3

the savrow prolly has an option for XGA UXGA or SXGA meaning u get 1 of the LCD listed, ur choice

'gaming optimized' is just baloney vodooo talk :P they just assemble the notebook and paint it and provide you the service/etc

if they can show me benchmarks that their voodo m:360 is some how different from the odm interms of hardware components/software tweaks and optimizations and the difference in benchmark comparisons than i'd believe it

2. Are the Arima/Savrow and Voodoo weights including the battery too? When other manufacturers list the weight, do they always include the battery?

3. I would rather buy in the US, just in case I need to get it serviced and so shipping is easier. Also, would I have any issues with European/US power if I buy the Savrow and use it in the US mainly?

4. How can the Savrow be "XGA/SXGA+/UXGA"? Can't there only be one native resolution?

5. Does that "gaming optimized" by Voodoo mean anything or is that hype?
1) nothing lighter than the arima with an m11
2) hexus reviewed the razor, weighed it with a precision scale to 2.35 kg (5.2 lbs) without adapter
3) gigabyte is the only place ive seen that even plans to sell the arima in the near future (later this year)
4) they probably will stick a different LCD on there depending on what you prefer; however hexus said the sxga+ screen did remarkably well representing non-native lower resolutions
5) its all hype

uh. get this and pimp it out with a 2.0 dothan, 60gb 7k400, 1gb RAM, and a nice paintjob. it's the lightest you can go with a m11. you would never regret that purchase.

my next recommendation would be the savrow, but you're right about overseas support--it's rough.

good luck man.

1) Actually, the Sony S series has a Radeon 9700 and is 4.2lbs. This model is only sold in Europe and Japan, not the US. (But the Arima is British too)

Is something up with Hypersonic? Are they out of business? I have been checking their website since yesterday, and I just get "cannot find server."

lol i can assure you if a company goes out of business their website will not be the first thing to go down.

I was looking for the same type of notebook too.

I tried the following 2 models:

Dell Dimension XPS
Alienware area51m

and I settled on the Acer Ferrari 3200 with a 2Gb RAM upgrade and 60Gb 7200rpm upgrade *both done myself*

After conditioning the battery, I received about 1.5 hours of gaming time (with LCD auto-dim set in BIOS)

US$2000 for the base notebook, $500 for RAM, $200 for hard drive and $170 for extended warranty, came to under $3k which is pretty good compared to the $3500 - $3800 for the Dell/Alienware ones I got (and returned)

Flush, the Acer Ferrari supposedly weighs 6.6 lbs. How does it seem to you; heavy or OK? Also, how is your gaming? What are you playing on it? Any unexpected problems?

How much time did you get from just using light programs such as word processing and web browsing?

Why do you need a DVD/CD Drive? There is software out there that will give you virtual CD drives, so you can copy your game CDs on there. I use it and it works fine with Battlefield 1942 and Command & Conquer. I use a software called "Alcohol 52%" for that.

Without an optical drive you might find something lighter. I wish there were a 9700 GPU based laptop w/o optical drive.
some new games are bitches
Pandora Tomorrow refuses to run if it detects any virtual cd drive installed, and for some reason there are no no-cd cracks for it beyond version 1.1 which makes playing online impossible even if you own a legit version and just want to bypass using the cd.

Sony S-type has a 13.3" XBRITE display, a Radeon 9700, can have a Dothan 2.0 cpu, and is like 4.2 pounds.

It may look good on paper but a few people here suggest going to a retailer to view it up close. The one problem they've said is the build quality looks cheap.

Check out the Sony Vaio S series thread.
yeah i tried it at compusa and the build quality really is cheap**** IMO. not as bad as the TR, but for a $3000+ lappy you'd not expect a flimsy chassis, flexy keyboard, and stress cracks after 2 weeks.
