Student + College = Yet Another Thread of Indecision

Hey,
yet another going to college thread must get laptop.
I'm looking for a nice laptop for college, mainly for typing, email, etc.
It doesn't have to be a screamer because I'm not really that big into games, and when I am I have a desktop.

So what I really need is:
1. Good Mobility (not super light, but no more than 6-7 lbs and must have good battery life)
2. Sharp looking (I want something that looks sleek), I would really like to get an alluminum body, but can't seem to find a laptop with one that has what I need.
3. Prefferably something in the 1500-2000 dollar range.

Try as I can I just can't seem to find anything that seems to fit my needs, so if you guys have any advise I would really appreciated it.

Thanks

I suggest the DELL i600m/D600. They never pass 6lbs, and if you go with the 600m with the 64mb graphics, it can even do some descent gaming. The D600 has worse graphics(only 32mb), but the build quality is a bit better.

To see the i600m, just click it in my sig(yes it's a link)

I have the i600 and it's fine. A alot of the guys here would lead you to believe it would fall apart in your hands, but build quality is good for me.

I also agree, the build quality is fine. But some people here just have ,really, really ,really, really ,really, really ,really, really ,really, really ,really, really ,really, really ,really, really ,really, really ,really, really ,really, really ,really, really high standards

Take a look at the Asus w1n, Newegg has a pretty good deal on one right now. Its the only alluminum case in your price range. Its still a bit overpriced, but damn its pretty.

I agree. People always say that i8600 has cheap plastic; however, friends from my college alwasy says that the class is great!.

mitac 8050 seems to fit your needs. It's a beautiful laptop and weighs in at about 6.5lbs.
rjtech has a cheap price on it.

any preference widescreen vs standard?
I like how everyone recommends the laptop that they personally own =)

I would look at the CL56, Mitac 8050, Acer 2015 or the Asus m6n. All of them are very nice laptops, and the differences seem to come down to personal preference.

Good luck!

if you want sleek, get an Acer Ferrari.

Or if you don't need if for gaming, but just for CPU/RAM/SLEEK/Small, than look at the Alienware Sentia.

How about the Fujitsu E8000 series?

the dell 600m's m9 is pretty crappy compared to the m11 systems you can get for the same price. not to mention the build quality is cheap (plastic is bendy, flex in the lcd), and imo they look boring. sure you can buy a 600m if you're not picky about these kind of things, but for the same money, why waste your time? you definitely won't get a decent D600 for under 2 Gs, don't bother with it.

grab something that will make your dorm-buddies envious, and not just because you blow their doors off with your 70 fps in utk4.

three m11 choices, you can get them for around $1500 with stuff like 1.7 dothan/512 pc2700/60 Gb 5400/Wifi bg:

1. mitac 8050 2. compal cl56 3. aopen 1557

happy fraggin

I bought mine for mobility/power. NOT, Desktop replacment/power. Each to their own, there are people who buy laptops for different reasons. And for build quality, SHUT UP UNTIL YOU USE ONE WHICH I KNOW YOU HAVEN'T
post #17 of 38
why comprimise when you can have both with any of the three laptop he mentioned?

um, i have used one. why else would i say so? it's cheap, dells have really fallen from their standards of the past.

i'd say your mind-reading skills are not so good as of late

if you want to waste your money, that's your prerogative. don't get mad because we're offering people info that will allow them to make a more educated decision.

Each to their own, I find the build quality fine, you don't

And i know i got crazy back there.

let's just say IBMs have the best build quality and leave it at that.
