Fedora looks exactly like RH9. It´s just an updated version. AFAIK Redhat makes it´s enterprise builds on Fedora. Much the same as Staroffice is built from OpenOffice but with extended functions.
I'm running Fedora Core 2 on my laptop without a problem. Just about everything works out of the box. You'll obviously need to install the Linux FireGL drivers from ATI's website to get 3d working. IIRC, Alsa worked fine.
