i8600: 1.8 vs. 1.6A

Getting down to the decision wire here. Noticed a $200 price difference between these two processors. Obviously the 1.8 is more powerful but I'd wonder by just "how" much. Also, any idea what the "A" stands for in the 1.6?

haha strange, i had the same exact questions on my mind as well. if anyone can clear things up for us, please do!

A stands for dathon, which has 2.0mb L2 chache.
I think 1.l6A has better value for now.

I thought it was a typo the first time you wrote it, so I didn't bother, but it's Dothan rather than Dathon.

Just in case anyone wants to look up the info.

is the 2mb cache worth the dell upgrade of $50

going from 1.5 to 1.6a

My guess would be yes, it just allows the CPU to work faster. Quite honestly, I'm more "excited" about the smaller die size which reduces heat and power consumption.

I am also assuming that the i8600 is still using the 400Mhz FSB, not the 533MHz that the new Dothan chipset allows.

Isn't the 1.5 Ghz a Dothan as well? Isn't this the Intel Pentium M 715?

that 533mhz FSB wont be available till Avliso/Sonoma comes out. which will be Q1 05
