Gateway bought eMachines, the former eMachines CEO now runs both companies. Or so I read the other day.

people who own emachines tend to post in the other section. like that one guy who claimed he had the fastest computer in the world.

oh right, i remember reading that, but it's getting close to 5pm and i'm about to get off work...lol

edit: yeah that guy irritated me.

Gateway bought eMachines so they'd have a retail outlet to exploit whenever they got around to it. I would assume that the product lines would have to merge at some point to be cost effective.
Assuming eMachines laptops still were going strong, we'd probably eventually see gateway laptops go away (or just rebadge eMachines) and eMachines desktops go away.
Come to think of it, I can't remember ever seeing a gateway laptop in my life.

When it came out in Jan (?), the Gateway M505X was THE notebook to own. Great combination of price/features/etc.

I just noticed that the general notebook forums are the largest on the forums at 45,000 posts...and we have essentially one mod who also does other forums..

I have an Acer but I don't think I would like an Acer-only section. This would keep me away from reading about other notebooks people are buying and testing, and I like the general information about other machines. I know I could visit both but I don't think Acer-only activity warrants it.
