RESOVIA 51M PHASES
DEADLINE TO DELIVERY JULY 23 2004
SELECTION
I chose the 3.4GHz 800 MHz with 512KB cache... figured that a desktop processor is easier to comeby for upgrades... especially since all of these processor options are offered on the same motherboard... the top of the line is a choice for people who like to overpay greately since prices drop the most at the top.
The 1GB of RAM (2x512) is also a temporary solution... although I can't really imagine any app needing this much RAM I am into multitasking and the more the better so 2GB upgrade is on the horizon as soon as the price comes to a sane level.
60GB 7200RPM Drive was chosen over the 80GB for its speed, as the primary drive I need this one to be quick to keep up with the rest of this pocket rocket while secondary drives added later will be able to compensate for lower overall storage capacity.
The Radeon 9700 128MB DDR choice was based mostly on the posts here where a few people mentioned to have slightly higher frame rates. Never had a graphics card from this manufacturer prior to this, in fact I had 2 NVidias but I guess if I wont try Ill never know for myself... In any case either card is already obsolete with the advent of the 256MB Radeon so I guess an upgrade in the next 6 - 12 months...
15.4" was one of the hardest decisions I had to make... I heard that UXGA was supposted to be better (not to mention larger) however quite a few people reported ghosting which was apparently not a big issue with the smaller SXGA+... as an added bonus two speakers hmph
The DVD/CD burner was an obvious choice... how can I not violate copyright laws with a $4000 laptop and still feel good about myself???

Externall 802.11 card was chosen again due to your posts since the internall seems to be a total waste of $$$
XP Pro... just cuz its embarassing to have home showing at bootup (windows is gay) I know I can replace the images but then again I don't know what vital elements they stole from the basic system and sure as hell I don't trust them.
Beyond that Ive also ordered two extra batteries (grand total of 3) i figure 5 out of 7 hours of flight is quite enough entertaiment... Polish airways don't support Empower and i calculated id need to cover most of the airplane to get 160W of juice on solar panels.
I am for Alienware backpacks. Too bad Im also against their inventory practices... I mean when exactly do you put an order in to resupply??? its the beginning of summer and they run out of bookbags uhmm were you like sitting on top of the last one hoping that no one got accepted to college this year?
and why is the wait 3 weeks? in any decent factory it takes about a day to make a couple hundred could you like ask them to ship those now or did the guy that is supposed to tell you when they ran out died three weeks ago and you just noticed
In any way shape or form I like the company and I plan to buy all my systems from them now on. As long as they keep up their promise of a 51m on my doorsteps on the 22 (Ill be generous 23rd in mornin) else Ill let the DHL UPS or FEDEX guy keep it cuz theres gonna be nobody here to pick it up.
PS a quick note to anyone planing on buying system with financing: Before even choosing a system get your financing straight, have all applicarions mailed in to you (free) than pick n choose and overnite the signed paperwork back. I personally lost 7 days of production time on this... another thing finance your system with same as cash, the finacing is set at over 20% even stupid counting on a 4K top you pay way over $500... keep that in mind... in fact you ought to have a credit card that has better rates than this.
