LG notebooks? Small, long battery life. - Page 2

I've upgraded quite a few PCs. Almost every one of the Athlon cores used a different voltage, the motherboards adjusted. As long as the chipset, bios, and motherboard support the core, it will work. There's quite a few different AMD64s all using the 754 socket.

Specs... wow. Some of them do use dothan.

Anyone know any retailers for the LM50-cuwu1? (in Canada of course).

At 2.4kg, dothan 1.7, 80gb, radeon 9600 64m 512ddr
with 6.5 - 10.0 (with a higher capacity battery) hours battery life, it seems REALLY nice, even when compared with the ferrari.

Price, however, is 3299CDN @ digitalspyders. And god knows how much for the 9-cell battery.

On a side note, how is the radeon 9600 64mb?

afaik this notebook is available in canada only
try googling - ncix.com is 1 place with the model u want, though its the same price

atic.ca

Wow.. once again atic comes out with the lowest price by far.. now if I can find the battery.

On a side note, WILL the athlon64 processors later on be faster AND easier on the battery? (the ones according to the leaked roadmap)

hmm i'm not doubting you did.. but i'm of the opionionyou can't usually swap different families of processors unless they're just added cache versions or something and teh LV and ELV are usually a distinctly different line.

like i've never been able to swap duron for athalon and pentium 3m for a pentium 3

From all that I can gather, the socket 754 AMD64s seem to all be interchangeable. Even on AMD.com, when you go to the links for chipsets supporting AMD64 processors, it links to the exact same page that the links for chipsets supporting mobile AMD64 processors links to. I've been able to find nothing saying that one supports one but doesn't support the other, which makes sense with AMD's history of cores normally working as long as the socket is the same.

If you do find something that disputes that, it'd be great to know.

Duron and Athlon were swappable, as long as you had a new enough motherboard to support the newer of the cores. Intel is another story, they use seperate sockets for mobiles and desktops (except when notebook makers are using desktop processors in a notebook).

For now, I've decided to buy the LG.

I'm going to probably cancel the ferrari (which is 300-500 CDN cheaper).

Anyone have a clue where to get the 9-cell battery, or if it is possible to swap it and not buy the 6-cell one?

Also.. anyone want to talk me back into getting the ferrari? :P

i recommend you go and check out the LG in person first before you buy it...i wasn't really impressed.

I don't know if what you're suggesting is that mobile AMD64's can be used on any mobo that supports a desktop AMD64's. If that's what you mean...you sir are correct .

Woo! Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
whoa that's pretty good then
i guess you will be able to upgrade
Yeah. Over at Anandtech, in their hot deals section, guys are tripping over themselves to get the mobile AMD64's. Those things are crazy good overclockers.

I'm content running my $30 JIUHB stepping 1800XP @ 2.2 ghz @ stock voltage...

After a quick google search...

Hmm.. now I'm reading that the LM30 won't deliver even close to it's 6.5 hour rating (some guys got 2.5 hours on an earlier version of Batterymark).

The ppt presentation that the guy sent me said that LG uses batterymark to gauge the 6.5 and 10.0 hours that they get.

Also, I read somewhere that the yellows and greens aren't displayed correctly, and it should not be used for designers.

LG.. the LCD monitor manufacturer would make mistakes like this?!

If the battery doesn't deliver at least 8 hours.. I'd be pissed.

Either way.. should I take the plunge?
iono you can be the guinea pig i guess ...i sure hope the LM50 is better because it has some design awards
post #39 of 44
i read those too.. but all they reviews seemed to be slightly retarded since everythihng was getting 2.5.. so i'm thinking they were doing something wrogn

by all i meant hte other models that we know have good battery life

Everything was getting 2.5?

On the LG powerpoint presentation I have here, it says that LG tested the battery using BatteryMark also.

Quote:
Worlds longest Battery life
Independently tested using Battery Mark
9 cell battery: 10 hours
6 cell: 6.5 hours
Average competitive is 5.5 hours
Battery degeneration drops your time 50% over 2 years
LG gives you 5 hours after 2 years, still excellent
A bit of Korean-English :P Expected since Korea is not a English-native speaking country.

Either way, this heavily contradicts this site:
http://www.apcmag.com/apc/v3.nsf/0/3...256E370015C2A5

which is probably the one you're talking about?
