Hi fellows
Since I do not have a manual for the AW-51m can some one tell me how to switch to the PS2 external mouse.

Thanks

Wrong forum, Emil. This is the Sager Drivers forum; for one, this question should be in the a support forum, not a driver forum, and secondly, you're not even in the right manufacturer forum.

Ditto for your other post.

Try the Alienware Support forum.

Is Sager 5680 not the same as the Alienware Area-51m.
The reason I post here is because the A-51m manual on the Alienware support forum does not mention it.
Sorry if I offend any one.

You didn't offend me Some people are anal about these things

It wasn't offensive, I was just trying to help you post where you'd get the most information pertaining to your query; Yes, they were both built by Clevo, but since Alienware opted for a different case design, I figured their manual would be somewhat different overall than the 5680 default. It was more of a support issue as well, rather than a driver question, which is why I suggested you check elsewhere.

emil, can't u just plug it in and boot the computer?

I haven't tried on my lappy, but I'm guessing the same applies to laptops as it does to desktops.. From what I read, I'm guessing he's trying to plug in a mouse to the ps2 port after the machine has started running, and then wants to switch to it....

If the same rules apply to laptops as they do to desktops, the mouse MUST be plugged in before the laptop is turned on, or it will not work...

This is why I use a USB mouse

Yea you have to turn your computer off first, or restart your computer. Get a usb mouse if you need to switch while your computer is on.

ps2 mouse

domo2 and all who has replied thanks
Yes I tried all that booting up with the ps2 mouse connected but it still does not see it. The USB was good for a while untill I get this error message USB not available and the mouse freezes for 30 sec and work for some 10 sec and freezes again etc. But touchpad works all the time.
Any suggestion... Thanks

ps2 unlike usb is not plug and play. U HAVE to have a ps2 mouse plugged in before booting and if the system doesn't see it, then there may be some setting in your bios to enable it (which is doubtful but possible). Ps2 keyboards aren't as anal as the bios will initialize a keyboard even if its not there which is why u can normally unplug and plug in a ps2 keyboard at will while a system is running, a ps2 mouse on the other hand will lock up the bios if plugged in while running. There may be a firmware upgrade available from Alienware to resolve this also, or you may have a faulty unit, or even just a screwy windows install. USB mouse should just work, no fighting at all unless your using an old version of windows like 98se or something, but I'd doubt that ud be that silly.

You can try booting off a cd that runs a program with mouse support to rule out windows being the culprit. Something like a suse live eval cd would do the trick, or even just some of the hard drive test utilities such as western digital's wddiag (I think they only offer a floppy version but if you know what ur doing u can make a bootable cd out of the image).

Good luck, and remember that percussive maintance sometimes helps :-D
