Apple G4 PowerBook or Acer Aspire 1712?

I'm looking to buy my first notebook, but I'm having a hard time deciding on which one to buy. I do a lot of video editing with Premiere Pro, Photoshop and also DVD authoring. I have narrowed it down to what I believe are my best two choices, the G4 PowerBook and Acer 1712. If someone could give me their feedback on which of these would be the best for what I'm trying to do it would be very appreciated ? Thank you in advance.

very different systems. need to get your feedback on if you prefer mac os x or windows xp more. i'd say its more of an issue of mac vs pc.

yes, the mac vs. pc is the biggest issue. However, I'd take the G4 out of the picture. Yes, it is a very solid lappy but the processor is seriously outdated. Apple needs to realize that the core is primitive and need to stop increasing the clock speed. The Pentium M processor will give you faster performance but also 4-5 hr battery life. You can get the same video card (128mb 9700; if you're looking at the higher-end apple) and a faster 7K60 drive all for a cheaper price. I'm guessing you'd like the widescreen form factor so here's your top choice: the mitac 8050. The acer aspire 2025 is nicer looking but more expensive. IF you buy the acer, you'll have to take out the slower Hdd; the price will still be cheaper than the G4.
If standard screen isn't an issue then check out the CL56 (forum favorite) or the aopen 1557.

mitac 8050: rjtech.com, mayhem G2 @abs.com, hypersonic-pc.com
Cl56: rjtech.com, ibuypower.com, internetishop.com
aopen 1557G: ibuypower.com

CL56 is also available at mwave.com (the cheapest) and hypersonic.com (one of the better)

So for processing speed the Pentium M 1.5 to 2.0 will be better for video editing and rendering than the Pentium 4 3.0 or higher? As far as operating system I really have no preference, I just want a powerfull machine that can render video, encode DVD etc... without bogging down. I would like to stay around the $2000 or under price range if I could. I know with the G4 this will not be possible.

a 2.0Dothan will offer performance close to that of a 3.06GHz P4. With the tasks you're doing, the dothan's 2mb cache will really come into play and possibly allow the 2.0 to exceed the 3.06Ghz P4 in performance.

what's the list price on that 3.06gig dothan you're talking about tourney?
It's pretty darn expensive but if he was considering a G4, he can afford it.

i was thinking more along the lines of the 3.06 dothan doesn't exist but okay...
