STILL trying to get the M6805 Processor to run over 800mhz on battery - Page 2

I just installed the powernow in compatibility mode and it works fine. I use a little program called cpuclock to tell me what the processor is running at and it is always at 1800 (m6805). I did notice however that when I right click on "My Computer" it shows the speed at 800. So maybe you just need to try a different program to check the speed.

I know this is no help but, this must be a Windows XP bug of some sort as it works fine in 2000.

I agree. I don't know why people keep blaming it on the BIOS when it is exclusive to XP. I feel it is something that needs to be addressed by either AMD processor driver, or Microshaft.

This Forum: AMD Processor Support has a lot of info on the speed switch problem. Just search a little. I got my copy of Power Now! (adds Power Now! tab and settings to Power Properties dialog) from there. I'm running the stock XP Home, Installed Power Now! in Win 2K compatability mode and have no problem selecting between slow, auto and fast (using the Power Now! tab, NOT the Power Schemes tab) on battery. On AC I only get Auto and Fast, however. They also have a speed indicator called Power Now! Dashboard.
I also installed an updated AMD processor driver whose readme fiule says:

README.RTF file for AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor Driver

REQUIREMENTS:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 systems with ACPI 2.0 performance control objects (_PCT) on Windows XP.

DESCRIPTION:
This driver supports processor performance control via the processor objects defined in the ACPI 2.0 specification.

KNOWN LIMITATIONS:
1) The processor performance state may not be restored to the maximum state
if the CPU runs at 100 percent. This problem occurs if the computer is
100 percent busywhen the power policy changes.

2) "System Properties" reports wrong processor speed.

For more information, please refer to the following website:

3) The Processor speed may be reported incorrectly in Windows XP.

That works only on the m6805, and apparently not even all of them. No idea why. I have yet to see a m6809 it works on.
