The knowledge base is also open to the public...the only things that require a password are the Support Forum, the live chat, and the personal account info pages. If you need drivers, I believe the ftp is ftp://alienware.com/
Really the only action. How about only letting actual owners make post and let anyone else read the forums as they will.

Lwbruck@aol.com- i kno exactly y they do it...so that people will ONLY BUY DIRECTLY FROM THEM. ITS SO THAT PEOPLE WONT BUY OFF EBAY. It is a way AW gets more customers. Its a sly marketting move.
No don't say that. It's so they can provide their customers with the highest quality customer support. It doesn't make sense to allow Alienware owners to transfer ownership to someone else.

Why shouldn't I be able to sell my $4k laptop to someone else next year, recoup some of the cost so that I can buy another better one and still have that person get support. I agree, it's a sly shady marketing tactic. I also think they don't want people to read the problem forums. I know that most people are happy, and only the unhappy or small percentage of people have problems, and the unhappy or problem customers are the majority of the posts, but let me read up on it. I won't buy a new one direct until they change their ways.

Just so there is no confusion this is not a sly marketing move... MontBlanc has been around since early 1900s and they sell their pens exclusively through thir boutiques around the world... I just wish that the employees would go all out doing their best not to screw up on a $4000 laptop the way these guys go out of their way to give you the utter satisfaction when you buy a $600+ pen... Alienware could take some pointers from MB cuz I know the next time I come by some extra money lying around Ill be eyeballing a new FP from them and only them... I only wish my toppie would appreciate in value as well as their pens

Just to clear up my fountain pen parables here... The reason why I compare the two is because both are exclusive collectors items, this is not your DellRod your Pac or HorsePile these lappies will still be turning heads in ten years when there visciously outdated because they were built special, unique, personalized and ahead of their time... When was the last time some dissed the gullwing Mercol even though my Miata could smoke the living snot out of it and it costs way way less???...

Uhmm this is a problem forum... are you reading this... yea so is everyone else that would like to... how much of a pain are the Dell and those Se... system guys poping in just to cause a s**t storm and screwing up the polls... the reviews are here free for the whole world to see AW has the other channels reserved so that they can maintain some control over the source and quality of information given... it does no one good when somebody pops into support forum that dosent got the stuff complaining bout it like they did and just causing a general fear wave to go throughout the community about incompatibe this and that when they aint got and aint know jack... just my opinion

Flapjacks showed us the FTP to all the drivers, manuals, etc. As for their forums, like someone said above, when everyone used to have access then people who were anti-alienware would just start flaming everywhere. I agree maybe they should make it so non-logged in users could view the forums.

I think you should just stick with aol.com and dell

Yeah...maybe i should...But I can't resist the oppurtunity to vent at a company making a good product with poor product service. Laters!

What's wrong with Dell? I've got 7 of them....as for aol, well, I've been with em for years...

HAHAHAHAHA We should start a cheezy Dell advertisement in these forums maybe we could get some of these guys away from the mothership its the dumnutz that fall for those gimmiks anyways and they will never realize the advantage of a quality system we wont loose much business for Alienware either these guys seem to be few and far between on the Alienware forums just painstakingly annoying... AOL is the single most annoying ISP next to NetZero you want speed get Comcast I managed a 4Mbps transfer on my broke a** iPAQ i din't even think that wus possible. As for AOL theyre always happy to take your money and provide you with massive amounts of features youll never need, don't care for, and can't get rid of... Been there paid that.. I do appreciate the periodical coasters though I plan to tile my ceiling with those CDs soon...

I don't consider a dedicated forum help page, comprehensive help pages, and driver roundup to be of any lower quality than that of the other producers

If you want the latest and greatest right now you would not even look at AW or Dell right now you would look at Falcon Northwest TL, Sager 4750-V from pc torque and Voodoo m:860. Alienware was the latest and greatest 6 months ago. I have an Area 51m and I love it and the reason you have to have a login and password is to keep the trolls out of their forums.

I have two MontBlanc pens that I have been given to me from clients that I have. I did not know they cost 600+ lol. Each time I got one I looked at the person like thanks a lot and gave the same look to my girlfriend when she gave me a Louis Vuitton wallet for my birthday last year.

Yup they expensive but worth every penny the Diplomat is the single most comfortable and beautiful writing utensil that I ever had the pleasure of owning... Don't you wish they made cases from that precious resin??? Just imagine a black case with that royal red bouncing off the inside components in the sunlight... Top it off with 18K russian(red) gold accents and you have one laptop that youll never ever want to give up!!!

Resovia my friend you really are missing the point. People don't want to visit the, "Official Alienware" forums to make frivolous posts about a product they don't own, that's absurd. People that are interested in purchasing things want to know what problems people are experiencing with their purchases. This forum is full of knowlegable people that are very helpful, but it's not a total reflection of the, "Official Alienware" forums. You can visit a forum for viewing only without making post and I think that where the fricition exist. What if there weren't a, "Notebookforums.com"?

With that reasoning what if there are no official alienware forums?... If you are selecting this top there is more than ample information about it Im more than a week into reading all the reviews available and I still have a cpl thousand results on google to go through... Ill agree with you on that AW ought to allow VIEWING the forums but not editing... In the very end however you will NEVER actually know what youre getting untill you have it in front of you this company moves way too fast for the reviews to keep up anyhow chances are that a bad review of a screen videocard or BIOS has already been corrected... Just something to keep in mind "This is not a car what I buy and review today possibly won't apply to what you buy tommorow" the whole forum point is to deal with the current and past mistakes while the company gets insight from the feedback in what it is that they are doing wrong... I'm pretty positive that the AW forum is not much better than this one (excluding the actual fixes for past products) in fact this page is probably quite comprehensive in respect to dealing with issues sice people like me get attached to this forum and will probably maintain posting here since we all spend so much time here waiting for our toppies to arrive... in respect to what you say of people posting to cause a mess IT WAS DONE BEFORE just look at the polls there are a number of questionable people voting that might have just been passing from the Dell forum and decided to vote without actually owning an AW... as you can see I personally waited and am still waiting for my top to arrive before I vote myself

But that IS why the forums are private now, people WERE posting frivolously just to tear down AW. There was also a problem with stalking and I believe EL P(the president) from Voodoo even stopped in a couple times to make an ass of himself...Point is, AW had ample reason to lock the gates...should they allow viewing? prolly...but it is their decision, and it was likely done to "protect" the customers. From AW's point of view, there is nothing to separate second hand users from the trolls and liars that haunted the forums in the past.

Thanx FlapJacks i needed a veteran to back me up on that 1... Besides CGPD7507 what do you call what you are doing right now??? you got XPS in youre signature and youre on the AW channel... Obviously youre not checking out the product just causing trouble since you bought the XPS and now we aint letting you in to our exclusive forums WTF? common if you were really just checking out the system like a normal person would youd find heaploads of data from every aspect of the machine I know I did and so did everyone that makes real posts here

These laptops have a minimal lifespan of 2 years... 3 is more like it with upgrades... youre not going to even get half your money back after a year unless you sell it to a complete idiot upgrades needed will = price of comparable system... just ruitine upgrade facts... and if you maintain this trend in the next 3 years youll probably shell out about 10 big ones for a laptop thats current at the end of year 3... now if you upgrade your top to the limit at advantageous moments youll have a current laptop by the end of year 3 and an upgraded top that will still be useful that just finished its top of the line gaming in year 2 best of all only about 9G for both in your hands...
Again just raw calculations
