I want to touch the CL56

I am wondering if there are any CL56 owners in the Toronto area? Okay this may sound stupid but I am sooo close to buying this machine but still lack the faith in purchasing before see-ing/touching. I'm going to be shelling out $2.5K for this so I wouldn't mind looking at it first. Anyone willing to let me look/touch their CL56? Pretty please.

You can return it if you don't like it, so just find a good company such as Discount Laptop to try it out. Keep it if you like it, or return it if you don't.

Tiger Direct has a storefront in Markham, you might be able to see one there.

Ask turanuk...I know he lives in Canada (maybe not Toronto) and he knows places you can see them

I'm doing the same thing, buying a CL56 very shortly, and I'm a little skeptical about it too. But like yorkhung said, buy from a company that will let you return it, like discount laptops, and try it out for a few days. If you don't like it, return it and pick something else out.

if you concerns are about a specific feature (i.e. the screen, etc), you can go over to a local computer store and compare whatever you are concerned about. I wanted to know about the screen issue, so I went to MicroCenter and checked out a 15.1" SXGA+ screen, just to get a feel of the gradient issue and viewing angle issues. Yeah, obviously if you want to see the actual laptop itself, then you can't just jump over to a local store, but for some issues, you can see very close comparisons

I wanted to get a feel of the size of the machine. Right now I use a Dell D600 at work. It's definitely a smaller and lighter machine and I really like it's dimensions, but I find it a little under-powered for my own personal use. I was wondering if anyone can compare the size of the CL56 relative to a D600 or Thinkpad T40 series machine.

Thanks.

why don't you just look at the measurement specs lol?
specs aren't the same as viewing.. as you know since you commented onteh lg ls

where are you buying from? i live in toronto too, and can't decide between cl56 and dell 8600

well you're asking size-wise, i was judging impressions. size-wise should be easy to compare with a ruler.

Dimensions are useless unless you plan on building a box. I'd like to see the same laptop before I buy it in case the keyboard is awkward to type on or the screen is weird or something is out of place, etc. I've been even trying to find an SXGA+ equipped notebook in stores so I could see if it's suitable for me, but I can't even find that so I have to just hope it works.

Okay, let me ask this...does anyone actually have this machine and is tote-ing it around with them daily? Does it get too heavy or too bulky?

Well I went down to the states today (Circuit City, Best Buy, CompuServer Stores in Bellingham) to check out the laptops that were similar in specs to the CL56. Weight @ about 7 lbs seemed decent, screen size was OK, could be better and overall impression of looking at a laptop similar to the CL56 was not bad, but it certainly could be better. I just wish I could see a display model or something of a CL56, so I know what I am getting exactly, so I guess now I can say a picture can't tell a thousand words afterall

Anyways, when I configured one at RBC, the price was lower than that of the local Frontierpc, and I did go down there, but alas they can only special order. And an added bonus is that RBC does pricematching, and I'm hoping that tomorrow they can pricematch a couple of more items and I'll be ready to order finally

Funkmeista,

When you finally get your CL56 from RBC, let me know how it turns out...I'm probably going to order it sometime in middle of august when I've saved enough cash. Maybe I can come by and look at your machine if you are in the Toronto area.

Thanks,
Snipa
