8790 Far Cry problems and Video Bios

Hey guys... I'm borrowing my friend's 8790 (I'm almost going to buy one in a couple of weeks, I'm just too damn cheap) since he's outta town and I'm trying to play Far Cry and I noticed that there are these strange triangle shaped artifacts that come about after playing the game for a few mins. The video card is running omega's Catalyst 4.5 and is running at stock speeds. I've installed the latest mobo bios so that I can run the laptop on full blast because I thought it might be a heat problem but as it turns out running the fans on full blast doesn't help. I also tried Catalyst 4.7 and 4.6 drivers and same problem. These artifacts seem to appear only in Far Cry and not in any other game... It seems that underclocking the VRAM to 255 seems to help but the strange thing is in other DX9 games, running the VRAM at 295 doesn't produce any artifacts at all. I remember reading that someone had the same problem and resolved it with a bios update for the ATI card from Sager so if anyone has this bios upgrade PLEASE PLEASE PM me and let me know... Otherwise, if any of you have any advice on what the problem could be I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance

Which level - where in the game are you having the problem? I have Farcry running on my system and I have not been having any problems. I believe I know what you are talking about as there is a championship level on UT2004 (the last championship) that I get bad black or brownish triangle shape blocks in my viewing lane. But that is the only place. I played UT2004 for several hours on other levels and never had a problem, but every time I play this level, I do. So this is why I was wondering where you are having the problem, as I can test it here.

I am on level 5 (I think). I was just picked up by Doyle in the boat when I called it quits. If it happens before that, I have not see this anywhere else. But let me know.

Thanks.

Yeah, I have sort of the same problem as Modena but I only get strange dark triangle like shadows on the rocks on the beaches. Nothing else is really "off" though. If I get all these Omega drives and all I can't watch any movies! Can still play the game, it is just a little odd looking...

The triangles appear in almost every round.... Especially if I move around too fast. It's really bizarre and annoying. Makes the game unplayable. It seems to happen the most in the treetop level but again it happens everywhere else too. The new ATI bios is supposed to fix it but no one seems to have it.

Did you try the drivers that came with the machine?

Modena,

I'm experiencing the same artifacts as you. I also get a horizontal dotted line across the entire screen when under water. Using Omega v2.5.44 drivers.

I am not sure. Other than what I listed above for UT2004, I have not had a problem at all, both underwater and on land. The drivers I am using are the Omega v2.5.36B.

What are the settings inside of Farcry? My resolution is 1440x900x32 with AA off. Under the advanced settings, it is set for Very High. My clock settings is 462/291 (I wanted 460/290, but I could not get it to increment properly).

I haven't seen the BIOS update. THe only thing I have done is gone to the drivers (as listed above), but nothing on updating the bios. Sorry.

There was a sticky from Adam at PCT with the information and files.
I have a copy of this as I was the first person to report this problem. At least it sounds like the same problem.
Send email and I will send the files to you, as sent from Sager tech support, when I get home tonight.

Never mind, Modena, I just saw the PM you sent me. I will send out tonight. I do not visit these forums very often anymore. I will send the files tonight. You will need a clean DOS bootable floppy and USB drive to do this. I believe the readme which comes with the files explains the procedure.

Ok. Time for me to join the group. As of late, artifacting (mostly in Farcry) is completely evident. This has not been a problem before, and the system is normally at 37C.

What file fix were you guys looking at and did it work? This is just plain ridiculous. I am also notifying Hypersonic on this as well. Strange thing is, this is a fresh install of the system and Farcry, so I know it is not corrupted.

Any ideas or things to look at would be greatly appreciated. Already looked at the loosening of the screws and that created unbelievable artifacting every where. Put those puppies back and it is just contained in Farcry right now.

Definitely looking for help.

Thanks.
