4750 comparrison with 5690 benchmarks

Hi all..for those curious. I took this thread http://notebookforums.com/showthread...ighlight=D470K
of someone here on the forum with the 4750. The specs of my machine. Sager 5690 Pent4 2.8 1024 Ram 60gig 7200Rpm HDD ATI 9700 128

His 4750 AMD 64 3000+ L2 cache size 1000 , 60 gb 5400 hdd, 9700 128 mb mobility radeon , 17 inch wxga screen ( gorgeous screen , no dead pixels ),
dvd multinorm 4x , tv tuner intern , 1024 ram

GPU> 472.50
Memory> 249.75

His stock memory was lower so I downclocked mine to match his. Plus im bored, had nothing better to do..and I know many were wondering what kind of performance the 4750 would have, so this is just to give you an idea til Adam finally gets some benchmarks done for us.

5690 4750
GFX 3,474 GFX 3,372
CPU 8,240 CPU 7,502
Aquamark score 28,689 Aquamark score 27,542
3DMark03 3,453 3DMark03 3,396

Hope this is useul to someone.

I'm choosing between the 5690 and the 4750 and I know others are as well. This made my decision easier, thanks!

Thats it? Your 5690 should be getting 3dmark03 scores close to 3900 even with the slight memory downclock
post #4 of 43
he's got a P4 2.8GHz that should slow it down quite a bit.

Ogre im a girl :P
Amir I don't know..with a 500/300 over clock I get 3958 on 3dmark03

That would be cool..I have two weeks left to decide if im keeping the 5690 and going with the 4750..my true heart lays with the 8790 but that price is out of my budget...The 4750 gives me the 17'' screen I want and the amd64..not to mention full keyboard and num pad heh Im gearing up for everquest2 and I want the best possible unit I can afford to run that game smoothly. Especially since I went DTR and not upgrading my terriable geforce2mx 400 64mb vid card heh

Is that two weeks left to order or two weeks left until it gets to you? If you need it in your hands in 2 weeks, you would have to get 2nd air or something to be absolutely sure you'd get it in time, they don't start shipping till the 15th i've read.

Anyway, the 4750 should be able to handle EQ2 easily. Most agree it could handle doom3 and hl2 as well.

Orge, No two weeks left to decide if I will keep the 5690...if not for the screen I would keep it no problem but i really think i want the bigger screen for all my girly gaming needs :P

O ok, wasn't sure what you meant. If it doesn't cost you too much to get the 4750 then go for it. What kind of screen does yours have?

Mine is the 15'' sxga. The screen itself I like fine..its the size im still bashing myself in the head over. Its workable..but my last lappy was a 15.1 and yes that one extra inch makes a big difference lol Plus i like the idea of the wide screen for gamming..

I don't know I might just suck it up and get the 8790..its king I think...and im still a little warry of the 4750 in the 4780's body..they had over heating issues and I worry about that..I do hope Adam runs some tests soon..

I was kind of facing the same problem as you Synergi. But I got the 8790 (yes it is expensive!) because I knew that if I got something else I would have kept on thinking to myself, I wonder how good the 8790 would have been like? knowing that I would be stuck with the one I have. I don't think there is a thing such as a notebook that is too fast...? Just a thought.... Widescreen supported games are a hoot! I am sure any Sager you get will be a great laptop though.

Dr. Vencman...you hit the nail on the head. That is exactly what im going through. At the time my furnace was suppose to cost 2199 but i found a cheaper one for 1580 so if i had waited a week i would have had the extra...I might just go ahead..even if i get the 4750 i will probably still be wondering over my first choice....the 5690 is a great machine...but i do so want that 17'' screen and the 256 card doesn't hurt either heh..
I want a new machine as much as anyone.. What would be wrong with getting a 17" LCD for a lot less than new box? 90% of time you're not mobile
post #16 of 43
what games do u play ?? @ synergi
its not like your going to walk and use a laptop either. they work best stationary.

I play currently, Far Cry, Neverwinter..a little EQ but im really sort of idle..getting ready to sink myself into many many hours of EQ2 soon as it goes live. And you know how it is before a game comes out you really really want to play. Everyone starts worrying about upgrades. Well this time im skipping upgrades and going to a laptop ..quite a jump. I love the 5690 but im just not happy with the small screen.. :outs:: And I want dual channel memory. Does the 4750 support this? I was thinking it didn't..Im slowly talking myself into eating noodles for two weeks and get the 8790 since i'll always wander about it like Dr. V said.. I just dread waiting a week or two on the exchange. Anyone know how long it takes to get an exchange done?
I don't think dual channel makes that much of a difference. I think the 1 mb of l2 cache makes up for it.

yeah, between the 4750 and 8790 you won't notice any difference in speed, they bench about the same from what we've seen so far.
