Re-map FTN and CTRL keys?

I've read a lot of people comment on frustration when the Function and Control keys' positions on the keyboard are swapped. I can understand that, but I was wondering, can't the keyboard be re-mapped to change those two? I know that mapping the keyboard was something that was easily done in older versions of Windows, so I imagine it still can be easily done there. Sure, your actual keys would then read backwards, but if you use the key without looking (which is where I'd assume the frustration comes from), the problem would be solved, wouldn't it? And if the label bothered you, a little time with and Avery lable and some scissors can give you a new label on the keyboard. (I had to do that for a keyboard I got with two number 8 keys instead of a 7 and 8. I put the sticker over the wrong 8 two years ago and it is still there and looks and works fine.)

I'm especially curious because I believe the machine I ordered has them swapped and if it ends up bothering me, I thought I could just remap it. Anyone?

my last laptop the mitac8335 had its CTRL key in the wrong spot

the FN key was in its place, and the CTRL key was moved over to the right 1 key...

as a gamer it bothered me alot coz the CTRL key was naturally my crouch/duck key... I never got used to the irregular placement and I looked around for a fix. aparently from reading the sager forums, there is a fix for it, but you need a manufacturer bios specific update... along with physically removing and swapping the key buttons

too much work for me plus a few other things led me to return it

Why bother swapping the keys? LOL. A little sticker on top is just fine for me.

I wouldn't want to mess with it too much either, if it's a big hassle, but I thought some basice Windows keyboard remapping might be the easiest route.

Can't you also redefine the controls in most games? If so, why not redefine the Function key to take over the normal role (crouch) of the CTRL key?

Just being devil's advocate.

I don't think games recognize fn as a key....i could be wrong, never tested it.

yeah, its not so simple as switching 2 keys as some people mentioned in an earlier post. if you notice, the fn key only works with other keys when pressed together. This might be done on the hardware layer, in which case would make it very complicated to switch the simple ctrl key and the complex fn key
