What dvd-r media do you recommend?

Ok, I saw this discussed once before, but no def. answer. What media are you guys using with your dvd-r burners, or which ones have you heard work the best (i.e. most successful burns, and good compatibility). Thanks for any input.

Also, where would you recomend I buy my media?

Same as my CD-R media - the cheapest spindle version... think it's Ricoh or somthing (there's no labels); I buy them at the computer show for about $0.50 each (for 1x) and $1 each for 2x...

Haven't done any 4x yet (too expensive).

I tried that at first (cheap media, which is what I do with cd's), but that didn't work out so well. I got some optimums from staples (not cheap for most, but def. low grade. Since I work at staples and stuff, I found a way to get a reduction from the normal cost) and they played fine for the first 50 minutes or so in my dvd player, and then they started to become very jerky and have a great deal of artifacts, almost like there was a flaw with the out end of the dvd when it was made. So before I spend more money, I was wondering if there were any types that people think work great.

I bought the same cheap media from staples, to test the Toshiba SD-R6012 dvd-r burner I got with my 5670.

I have had so many bad burns that it's not funney, some came out fine, but played on a dvd player like crap. (skipping etc..)

You had any luck on a certain brand? I really need to get some media, but don't want to buy some other media that is crap as well.

Wish some Sager users would state there brand of dvd-r they use with there Sager systems. (Toshiba DVD-R SD-R6012)

thx..

Well, I wasted a great deal of money (well not that much, like $120) and am still not sure. I have tried staples optimum (1 out of 7 worked correctly in my stand alone, didn't try the other 3), unbranded maxell (I heard that they may be fake, but I got them from a reliable vender) (0 of 6 worked, I have 19 left if anyone wants them), ritek 2x (1 of 3 work, I have burnt about 6 movies correctly with these), TDK from CompUSA (1 of 4 worked, I have only tried 4 of the ten).

I still have yet to find out a brand that is at least 90% reliable. I heard that Taiyo Yuden's work well, but have other expenses right now, so I don't have the cash to spend on anther stack of disks. Tell me if you have any better luck then me.

That sux that you spent so much, and haven't had any good luck.

My friend just got a spindle of TDK's 1X, gonna grab a few to see if I have any luck with them.

A lot of online vendors that sell dvd-r's, I see they sell samplers, gonna give them a try as well.

I will post my results here later.

These are some links i bought off ebay. also if you look around there is another one bye dan herring which both of these are the same prices are a couple of bucks off but between shipping make up for it. I have had no problemse with these at all they have played fine on my home dvd and all my computer players my home is a pioneer. but a couple of my friends dvd players wouldnt play them. Funny thing is they were both sony players. and all the dvd copys i have made were done with the sony dru500ax. I have backed up aproximatley 100 dvd's and havent lost a one. and obviously between the 4x and 1x its just the recording time. but i have used both and prefer the 4x. cause of the speed but my wallet prefers the 1x to leave me drinking money.... Also havent had any defective ones.
