Contack Emachine Corporate about crackled hinge NOW!

I just got off the phone with EMachine Corporate and was told they were making a decision this week on whether or not they were going to do anything about the cracked hinges.
If you have a crack and have not contacted the corporate office, please do so immediately.
I examined my laptop 3 days ago and did not have a crack. Today it was there.

If you don't call and they decide to continue the policy of not fixing it, you have no one to blame but yourself.

I agree with you. At first I felt bad for taking back to Best Buy in a perfectly functional laptop just for a small crack in the hinge. They gave me a new one no questions asked. Then I saw how many people have this problem.
We have to voice our concerns if we want things to change.
I will call later today

Just called.....and the lady who answered (on first ring no less, was very supprised it went right to a person) said they weren't issuing any sort of recall, and that they weren't looking into the problem on THIS series of Notebook's, but it was being looked into on other models. In any case i reported the problem, she wasn't to interested to hear ANY details on it, i just said i had a crack on my 6805, she took my name + number and that was it. She said they WERE NOT issuing RMA's on this notebook, but that could change.

Bassically i think she's full of you know what. There has to be others calling in about this. If any of you haven't called, please do so, takes all of 1 minute.

I called and got an RMA and the box came on Friday. Do you think they will return it without fixing it or repair it and return it. I am taking maney bets right now, the lines are open!!!

I think they better fix them. If not, I think a class-action law suite is in order!

This forum is great, as I just discovered a crack in my hinge yesterday. I just called eMachines, and they added me to their call back list. The guy that I talked to was aware of the issue, and was very friendly. He took my name, address and phone number even though I hadn't registered my laptop yet. We'll see what happens next.

I'm of the mindset that I would prefer a re-engineered part, as opposed to RMA'ing it to eMachines for a new screen with the same defect. And I really don't want to use my Best Buy warranty to get a different laptop _yet_.

have they decided what they are going to do yet? anyone know?

What's with emachines refusing to do RMA's? I got mine back after only 3 days, that's including shipping time, sure glad I got mine fixed early.

Good luck

Anybody heard anything about what they decided? I'm really curious.

Contacted and got a RMA! :-)

Hello All!
Just throwing out my experience, as of today. I called eMachines this morning at 9 AM, call went through quickly, NO "waiting/hold time", talked to a gal named Deniese, VERY nice and was well aware of the "cracking issue". After verifing my personal/shipping info, she gave me shipping instructions along with tips about packing it and about the shipping label. She then gave me the RMA # for my repair. Told me the "box" should be there within 2-3 days, and that I should have my machine back within 3-5 days after I ship it to them. so, I guess I'm looking at 8 days?? If that holds true, I'll be MORE THAN HAPPY!
One question for those that have had theirs fixed, have any of you had the "dead pixel problem" after getting your machines back????
Thanks! And I'll keep you posted on how this goes!
Later,
Patrick

According to what others have posted here, they just replace the shell, so you get your same screen back.

OF everyone that has had their cracks replaced....has it come back???

Just called the phone number listed above and they transferred me back to technical support to be added to a list of people who have the cracking hinges while they wait to see if at some *future* time they will do something about it. And they stated that corporate office will contact me within three days to see what can be done. The technical support guy did state that this is a known issue and further went on to tell me that machines that have had the *fix* done have not cracked. Overall the two people I spoke to seemed nice and knowledgeable.

The "fix"? Sounds like there might actually be hope for the eMachines laptops.

I got an anti-drug poster that says "crack is bad" and I replaced the picture of the drug with a picture of my emachines hing.....Woot.

isn't it just cosmetic? I don't really care about cosmetics, but I don't want the screen to fall off someday. Mine is really cracked, but other than a little play in the hinge, no real problem. Is this also in danger of mechanical failure? I was thinking it was just the plastic shell that was cracked and not the actual metal hinge...

yeah, if its only cosmetic im not gonna bother with getting it fixed and all. but if the screen is going to collapse on me one of these days then ill probably think otherwise
