Yeah, most schools are like that. Just be careful, because if they tracert your IP address, and it hops more times than it should (i.e. router/switch) then they'll figure it out, and I know people that have got in pretty big trouble for doing it.

You can put any ethernet based hardware behind a T1. The IP that the T1 would normally assign to you would sit on your router and assign a set of private ip addresses to your computer(s).

Yes, the T1 Line is run throughout your dorm, then you don't need a T1 Router or anything. This is most likely how it's laid out...

1_ T1 Connection To Dorm
2_ T1 Router
3_ Network Switch(es)
4_ Cat5 cable run to each of the dorm rooms
5_ Your Router
6_ Everything behind your router

You can use any of the major brands of personal routers. Just make sure that if you use wireless, you encrypt your signal, as people in dorms tend to use other peoples internet connection so they dont have to pay for their own. Here are a few links to routers you might be interested in.

Linksys
Wired
Wireless

D-Link
Wired

NetGear

Hope this helps!

You forgot the patch panels that conect the switches to the dorm rooms

I would go with a G router with wireless and G cards in everything. Either way you go I think a T1 would be hampered by an "home networking" device.
