tv tuner. that's the thing your looking for. most are internal and come with a remote too.

the tv tuner card isnt going to do him any good on his laptop.

look around for a USB GAINWARD Hollywood@Home TV2Go TVR Tuner, they are about $100, but it will let you watch tv on your laptop.

There are a lot of threads discussing the different external tv tuner options available. Do a search for tv tuner...they should pop up...

I checked for that and found it for around 85-90 bucks at newegg.

Searching for some cheaper alternatives.

ewww lol. Cheaper isn't better when it comes to TV tuners lol. The biggest deciding factor usually is the software the accompanies the tuner itself. I would suggest either the Hauppage (don't know exact spelling) or Adaptec VideoOh Media Center Edition 2.

If you can wait a little longer, ATI is going to be re-releasing their new external ATI TV Wonder USB 2.0 tv tuner. I'm waiting for this model to come out. It's expected to come out later this summer.

Go and buy this: http://www.usbhdtv.com

Its a USB HDTV tuner which can play both high-def and standard-def broadcasts.

If you have an ati all-in-wonder gpu in one of your desktops, then you can download eazyshare to watch tv through your laptop. All you need for your laptop is an ati gpu.

I think I am gonna have the ati 9700 gpu as i am buying(well as of this moment the cl56. But dont have ati gpu in my desktop.

TV on computers still is an emerging technology. There may be a program that will work with other GPUs (not just ATI).

My system is gonna have the ATI M11 gpu. I am confused, if I have to buy a new TV tuner hardware or the gpu already has a TV cable input port and all I need is some software to do encoding etc..
The ATI M11 does not have cable input port, so you will need a TV tuner to watch cable TV on your laptop.

That is real nice but it costs 249 bucks. If you do not have an HDTV quality screen, does this unit have a purpose.

I like ATI's solution, but when will it be available?

I have narrowed down between the Hauppage and the Gainward
Gainward is abt 10-15 bucks costlier.
