G-Omaha states on that thread that he found SageTV unstable. I'd recommend downloading demo's of both and testing them for dvd, avi/mpeg viewing, pic, and music uses. Get a feel for it first.

Keep in mind the software that gets bundled with encoders usually isn't great, so if you want to use your PC as a PVR you probably want to get a bundle. If you're on a tight budget, you should check out the myhtpc and maybe Gainward's TV2Go on Egghead, doesn't have hardware encoding but it seems like the reviews have been very positive. I should hopefully get some hands on experience with it tomorrow and will report back if I do.

Problems with TV Tuner and cable box

Hello all,

i am trying out my new TV tuner (adaptec USB2.0) on CL 56.
The cable connection is digital cable through the motorola box. I was trying to use the Snapstream software and i get a message saying that I need another piece of hardware a cable like an IR blaster to be able to change the channels.(since the cable is coming through an external box)
All i get to see is the initial channel like the TV guide in all the channels in the TV tuner.

I would like to know if anyone faced this problem ?
