bypass password??

one of ym friends got into a jam... there is only 1 account on his xp home machine andhe forgot the password and can not get in...

is there anyway to bypass this or get on to the machine with anotehr account?

i tried booting into safe mode and using administrator witha blank password but ti wont let me in with that???

Did he type in a clue/reminder on what his password is? That would have helped.

any ideas...? id have him reformat but he has data he needs to keep

yeah i had tried this.. made the bootable cd.... looke dlike everythign was goign smoothly but gave some error not in their FAQ

yeah i had already tried the no password thing... no dice, tell me more about this rock xp?

this seems to change everything but user passwords?

I do know one other trick but its kind of dangerous if not done right. Basicaly put the windows XP cd in and let it boot to the cd. when the option come up tell it you want to install xp then hit f8 to continue then it will ask you about the current version of xp installed tell it then to repair it this will then copy all the files over from the cd and efectivly restore XP without deleting all the stuff you have installed. This shoudl also let you setup new users and effectively get you past the password.

oh yhea i did use rock xp but it was just to get the cd-key not the password oops!

well since i blew away the SAM file and now it wont boot a repair seems like a good option anyhow... ill try that

hey brain have you tried this? if not can you try it out for me?

i went through it, seemed to work, looked like it was changing it, but when i tried to log in it still woudlnt work?

can you IM me or something later on?

its nto an alienware... and htis is beyond their scope anyhow they'd just tell you to reformat after backing up the data...


anyhow i got it to work with that iso after screwing around with some of the command line options
