Alright, I am a sound noob, I admit it.

My new Asus W1 has a spdif port. Yipee! So... how and/or where do I turn this thing on? I cant figure it out. D'oh!

Edit- its the good ol AC97 soundcard thingamajig.

you need an spdif Toslink cable.

try looking under "sound effect manager" in your control panel
