dammit, how lame, i finally have money to buy one, i'm told pctorqe is the best place to buy and i get a dead system?

Does it run off the battery. If not try taking the battery out and then plug the AC back in.

Do you hear fans running when you turn it on? If not make sure you press the power button and keep it down to see if it boots. The button has to be down for at least 1 second for the 5690 to start. Just a long shot

I tried putting a bootable cd in it. CD spins and makes noise but nothing. I don't hear fans running but the cdrom runs so it is on.

did you turn on the system with the system power button above the keyboard, or the audio player power slider in the front?

This is a classic advantage of purchasing a notebook WITH an Operating System from a reseller even if you already have a copy. In order to install an O/S they have to turn the computer on. If it doesn't turn on, they can't install O/S, therefore they wouldn't ship you a dead notebook.

Yea, sounds like AudioDJ. You're pressing the power button thats right under the LCD right? The power button in front of the 5690 is for the cd player control
