Warranties: Warrantech or Phillips?

PC Torque just added the option of a Phillips Magnavox warranty to all of the Sagers. However, for example, a 3-year under $3000 Warrantech warranty is $110 versus 3-year under $3000 Phillips warranty for $221. Overall the Phillips warranty seems to be twice as expensive as the Warratech but after reading the various threads about this and reading the policies page multiple times, I am still have a difficult time determining why the Phillips warranty costs so much more. If you are familiar with either of these warranties, please help me and others choose which one to get. This buffoon is quite befuddled

the difference is that phillips will include shipping in the coverage, and i'm researching the on-site clause. but as i mentioned, people have complained about warrantech service. Phillips offers 2 and 3 year extended in addition to the 1 year sager. warrantech offers 1 and 2 year in addition to the standard 1 year for a total of 2 and 3 years

Warrantech warranties work like this:

1 year Sager standard Warranty
+
1 (or 2) years Warrantech Warranty
-------------------------------
2 (or 3) years warranty Service

Phillips works like this:
1 year Sager Standard Warranty
+
2 (or 3) year Phillips Warranty
-----------------------------------
3 (or 4) years Warranty Service

EDIT: The following statement is wrong, i left it hear as a reminder of the errors of humankind!

Warrantech 3-year warranties work like this:

1 year Sager standard Warranty
+
2 years Warrantech Warranty
-------------------------------
3 year warranty

Phillips works like this:
1 year Sager Standard Warranty
+
3 (or 4) year Phillips Warranty
-----------------------------------
4 (or 5) years Warranty Service

Additionally, Phillips automatically includes shipping in the extended warranty service, and once i get home, i will be researching a clause where if you are withing 60 miles of an authorized repair center you are entitled to on-site repairs.

I think the extra $100 is worth it when you factor in peoples experiences with Warrantech, including MarquisDarquis

ok, so you actually get an extra year with Phillips. So to get free shipping to Warrantech you have to buy the repair transit coverage but with phillips you don't?
yup, and included shipping coverage

You might do a D&B on Warrantech - or - a simple web search and see what their major business focus and customer base is comprised of. The search for the real "Horror Stories" regarding their customer base. Do the same for Phillips and compare what their "Core Competencies" are. Align this to a Laptop Computer - or Computer Systems in general and you might observe a gross difference.

Shipping provided.
Lemon-Clause.
Repair Time Expectations.
Not "Totally Centered" on you ability to find and present your dated sales receipt for each claim.

Just four small things.

It's really a "you get what you pay for". Based on what is being covered, the price is really not too bad if the policy ever has to be used. Really is expensive (either one) if they are not used.

hmm, you're right. Phillips does look a lot better. So if I want my 4750 to be covered for 4 years total (college), I get the 3 year Phillips warranty, right?
read my statement again, when pctorque presents the warranty options, it's considered in total time, with the warranty periods factoring the original warranty.

you would need the 4 year warranty for 4 years of warranty total, which will include 1 year standard + 3 years phillips

like i state allthe time though, use an amex gold or better if you can get one to buy the notebook. it extends the original warranty statement 1 year after the warranties expire

ok, I thought I was wrong at first. The "4 year Phillips warranty" is the one-year Sager warranty plus the 3 years of Phillip's warranty

no, i made the mistake. i corrected it though which is why i wanted you to re-read it

shipping?

is the shipping included in the phillips warranty on for US customers?

In other words, for us Canucks, will we get shipping to depot included with the phillips warranty?

since i didn't know that they were going to implement this plan. i paid for shipping for 2 years. but should i still upgrade to phillips. i just sent my check in. I knew something like this would happen.

well if you JUST sent it in tell them to ignore it and your order and place a new one, I'm sure pct wouldn't mind
post #15 of 29
i think i will just see if i can pay the difference. its a 37 dollar difference. maybe they will let me pay with my debit card. which would be faster i would think.

So who's warranty did I buy on the sager 5690 under the drop down box during the order period?
I think if you ordered before, then you ordered warrentech, but you might want to call up PC torque to verify. You want phillips though.
You have about 10/11 months to buy the Warranty from Phillips.
