yea i know, had it all of 2 months and i might of already messed it up. im not completely sure though. about a month ago i plugged in a usb memory stick and something happened, the system restarted, and all day (only that day) the system refused to boot if i had the 3rd (side) usb port/memcard readers turned on. it would just blue screen. then to my surprise it started working again the next day, so i figured it was just a static buildup and no more of an issue (the port works fine now).

then the next failure happened. i have 2 harddrives, a new 80gb drive that came with the unit, and the 60gb from my old 5660. it was all working fine until about 2-3 weeks ago then the 60gb started flaking out. data access to it is finnicky so ive gotten everything off it as of now. yet i go back to it to test it and it works most the time, including full scandisk for bad sectors and all that junk. im wondering if the system cant handle the heat, but mobmeter reports temps from (cpu1/ 80gb HD/ 60gb HD) 32c/40c/45c (idle, full fan) to 51c/50c/57c (max load, automatic fan).

the area above the side usb/hardrives is really hot though, to the point its uncomfortable if used for long periods of time. is the older drive not able to handle the heat (ie should i get a newer drive of the same type as the one purchased with the laptop) or is it possible ive damaged something and it might of spreaded around?

finally, winXP blue screens ALOT (well, compared to win2k). i get one about every 4rd cold boot (but ONLY cold boots), and then one every 4-8 hours of constant usage. this is rather rare for me, seeing as 2K would crash maybe once a month on the old 5660. the non-boot crashes are never from the same cause though, as its happened with everything from light web-browsing to hardcore gaming, even just unplugging a firewire drive.

I really dont want to RMA this thing, as it kinda is my only system now, and unlike most i actually use this thing for school and work so going without it for even a week is harsh. if any of you have any suggestions please feel free, im looking for all the options i can.

List of things ive done to test it:
prime95
memtest
bad sector check
misc game stress tests
format/reinstall/full patching
AV/spyware/malware checks

Thanks
Leo

PS. if i do get a second replacement harddrive, how reliable has the striped raid between 2 80gb 5400rpm disks been for everyone? ive only had one raid, and it failed but that was due to the 120gb ibm desk(death)star drives.
