question on ram compatability

Hi

Sorry for the slight off topic nature, but I have a desktop along with my 8600c, its an inspirion 4100 P3 866MHz with 128 MB or SD ram running at 133Hz. Now I want to expand the ram as I find 866Mhz fine for my net surfing but most of the ram is now RD ram at 333Hz. Should I just upgrade to more SD ram at 133HZ or can i replace all the ram with new RD type on my old motherboard. How does one go about finidng compatibility issues.

Also what is the main advantage of RD ram? Does anyone know at what speeds P3 tops off at (so if i dedcide to replace just the CPU chip and not the mother board).

Thanks.

Here is Crucial's page with information and RAM options for your computer. It says that you can have a max of 512MB of RAM, and you have two RAM slots. Unfortunately, your stuck with PC133, unless you want to replace the motherboard.

I would add either 128MB or 256MB to your system.

I'd pick up sticks of the 256MB. For under $120 you'll have 512Mb of memory, which should be more than enough. Personally, I'd take the ram you have in out and set it aside. I like to keep my memory matched.

Thank you

thank you !!

on a side note, i think i remember dell offering two ram choices, the one i chose and a new type, i don't remember having to change the motherboard. I did buy the PC in australia though......... well was just surpised to see I could only use 133Hz.

tks guys.
