Hypersonic Memory?

I asked them what kind of memory they use and this was there response.

"Hypersonic uses memory that is custom made for our systems using high quality chips from leading chip manufacturers. For the CX5 we have certified it with DDR333 RAM."

Can anyone verify that they have custom memory and if so is it good memory?

Most likely, it's just an exclusive contract with a memory vendor. The vendor agrees to assemble a set number of sticks with a specific settings (DDR400 with a CAS rating of 2.5, for example). As long as the sticks meet HS's specs, they probably don't care who actually manufactured the chips on the sticks. If this is the case, then there's very little difference between these 'custom' sticks and the sticks you'd buy off NewEgg.com from the same vendor.

I can not tell you what they are using on a norm, as I don't work there. However, running CPUZ on my system, it states that the memory is as follows:

Conexant DDR-SDRAM PC3200
Freq: 200MHZ
CAS: 3.0 clocks

Not sure if this helps, but that is what is being reported on my system.

Ugh. A no-name brand with lousy CAS. My system comes with 512MB minimum (HS doesn't sell systems without memory anymore). I was planning on adding another 512MB if the timings were good. Now it looks like I might just be better off buying a gig and replacing the Conexant entirely. If I'm lucky, I might get a buyer for the old memory on EBay (if I sell it cheap enough).

Is it pretty fast?

lower CAS = better

yes but does hypersonic have low CAS memory?
call hypersonic and ask them about it, they might be able to give you better ram sticks for a few bucks, or atleast tell you exactly what youd be getting.
no hypersonic has relatively high CAS...

Looks like 2.5 CAS is standard for 200 pin is that correct?
2.5 cas is regular for ddr266/ddr333 i think. cas 3 is regular for ddr400. so it'd cost a lot more to get lower cas.
2.5 CAS is the rating for any half-decent SODIMM, yes.

err...this is kind of a pain I called hypersonic and they said all there reps are busy, so they'll call me back 45 min later still no call, I hope there tech line isn't like this.

Well hypersonic called me back, and I am very impressed by the knowledge of the sales department looks like I'll be ordering from them.

whatd they say about the ram cas?
I inquired with hypersonic on the memory timings of the AX7, the response I got was:
"The memory is PC3200 with a CAS Latency of 2.5." They didn't provide the rest of the timings.

Keep in mind that the information I reported is from CPUZ. As long as the tool is accurate, and I am not sure of it not reporting accurate settings elsewhere, that is what is in this system.

I will be looking for new memory down the road. I messed up and purchased two 512mb without thinking (I was scrimping money in one location for items in another - like paint job). I should have just gone with the 1gb stick for future upgrades. However, I figured I would buy a better stick when the price is right.

As for speed, I don't notice the difference and I can't tell you if I would. There must be enough difference out there, but this thing flies and games play great on it. That is the most memory intensive stuff I do on the system. I am happy, just wished I made the better choice of upgradibility.

They said on the CX5, the memory has a Cas of 2.5, he says it uses the same chips as corsair or samsung, they just use whatever they have available at the time. But in the Case of the CX5 it will always be DDR 333 and will always have a CL of 2.5.

I hope people realize that there are other timings other than CAS latency and that they also affect the performance of the memory. This is why most decent memory manufacturers express their timings in the form 2.5-3-3-6. Is a real cop out on Hypersonics part not to tell people what all these timings are.
