I was using a Dell 600m, but gave it to my dad. My only concern is that for the price, why the hell did they use those colors and cheap feeling plastic. The performance is ok, for the price.
I bought it September 2003. 14.1 SXGA+, 1.7 GHz Banias, 384MB 266MHz RAM, 30GB HD, DVD/CDRW, Free Extra Modular Battery, 64MB Radeon 9000 = $2100
I think you can get it for around $5-700 less now. Not sure though, check dell website.
EDIT: Funny, the new 600m's max out at 32MB video memory. Not sure which Radeon they are using now, but that sux.
I have had the battery replaced once. You'll have to wait between 30 minutes to an hour to speak to a tech, Indian can speak okay english. Other than waiting and speaking to tech, customer service is good. Sent replacement battery within a week, free shipping to return old one.
I have the motherboard serviced too. Same thing, phone call sucks. They send you a empty padded box with prepaid shipping, you ship them notebook, they send back quite fast, within 2 weeks.
This was before, when I only new about name brands and no real research. I've build desktop computers for a long time though, since 1996, i'm still young though. I would of definately gotten something else if i found this forum a long time ago.
