Ok, so I order my Area 51 m about 4-5 months ago and I called them and they said my lapotp WILL support it....So I am going to pay off my load and get another loan for 1,000...How ever...They told me that they are out of stock at this time and to call back in a month...The card costs $866 bux

I work alot in Discreets combustion 3.02

I am runing a 9600 and what not. In combustion it says I have no open GL hardware so it uses software...My question is what do these quadro FX cards do? I am a video editer and iI have no idea how this card is going to help me...were can I find more infomation on this card? a .PDF? Thanks again

I'm pretty sure that they thought you were talking about a Desktop Quadro card, there is no way that a mobile card could cost that much, call back and make sure they understand that you want the MOBILE quadro 1000.

Here are some details...it is basically a go5700 with OpenGL enhancements

BAH

now this guy is telling me they are NOT for sell yet as it is a new item and should be listed as a upgrade in about a month for $350-400 bux and that was his off the wall guess

That price sounds more reasonable, The Destop cards do retail for quite a bit of cash, so I knew that price was too high. Don't worry, the quadro go1000 was just released like a month ago (maybe less), it'll be available soon enough...

But what does it do for video editing??? Like in Combustion?

First of all, you should be able to disable software opengl in combustion. I'm running combustion 3 on my 51m with the go5600 and by default it ran in software until I told it to run hardware, it works fine now. Unless you've got a pro card combustion won't run in harware by default. As far as pro versus gaming, you will a difference between you 9600 and the quadro, quadro's are optimized for OpenGL and usually have around twice the performance of gaming card using opengl. Also, and not to poke your ati with a stick, but ATI has never really been strong in opengl.

I have seen my 5600 versus a harware identical quadro 700 in a dell play with particles in combustion and noticed that although the 700 was pretty much the exact same gpu, the drivers were faster at producing results.

In the end if you disable software rendering then you should be a heck of alot happier in performance. As far vid editing all I have used is premiere pro and it works pretty well.
