Sager 4750 and TV TUNER - Page 3

Check out the link I provided before. I'll post it again:

I found nvdvd 2.55 and dscaler 5 alpha to be the best in terms of quality. Use overlay, not vmr9, it helps out both with quality and speed.

I really wish I could demo the Sonic decoder, ppl seem to really like it.

FYI, I'm the lead developer on Beyond TV, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. There are several major differences in the programs, but I won't get into that too much unless you're interested in any particular angle on that stuff.

I discarded my evaluation of the software, even though it appeared to be better than SageTV. I installed and uninstalled it several times (but still within the trial period) and after a while it simply would not install correctly any more. My reasons for installing and uninstalling it was that I was attempting to determine why it would hang up my 8790 while recording. I finally determined that the Mobile Meter utility was the culprit. The machine would hang when I was recording (watching or not) a program and surfing the WWW. When I was scrolling up or down using the scroll "roller" on my MS Mouse, "Bang", the sytem would hang. This also happened to a lessor extend SageTV, Intervideo Recorder Version 5, and eventually the WinTV-2000 that is packaged with the Hauppage USB 2.0 Tuner. It takes a lot of time evaluating this type of software and my "limit" had been reached.

Rkuo, I think the thing both SageTV and BeyondTV lack most is an adequate decoder for mpeg2. If your product bundled an early version of, say, FWMM 3.0 (nvdvd 3) with it's built in post processor, I think that'd give BeyondTV an edge in that it would have superior image quality out of the box without tinkering. I find it annoying that with either product I purchase, I will most likely have to buy a 3rd party decoder since most that are bundled with tuners (Intervideo with the Hauppage), aren't as good and lack post processing and really good deinterlacing.

If BeyondTV did that I'd give it another look. As is, however, SageTV offers a more powerful, configurable package with a larger community of modders and supporters. I think that incorporating multi-tuner ability as your doing for your upcoming version should have taken a backseat to higher quality video and ease of use configuration.

Some people will want the server/client ability, I don't blame you for playing catch up on that one ASAP

Let me know if you have any comments/questions rkuo.

Hello all,

i am trying out my new TV tuner (adaptec USB2.0) on CL 56.
The cable connection is digital cable through the motorola box. I was trying to use the Snapstream software and i get a message saying that I need another piece of hardware a cable like an IR blaster to be able to change the channels.(since the cable is coming through an external box)
All i get to see is the initial channel like the TV guide in all the channels in the TV tuner.

I would like to know if anyone faced this problem ?

Yes.

You essentially have two options. The first is to buy either a USB or Serial "Blaster" (Costs between $25/50) or live with the basic (Up to channel 70 in my area) channels by hooking up the tuner via RF cable and using the AB switch that some of the Motorola 2000 familiy have. You wil need to hook the RF cable to the bottom left output from the A/B box for it to work (and also flip the A/B settings to enable it).

Thx G-omaha.

I will try it out. I am currently in Mexico and these motorola boxes are not the same as in US. (will check the model/type tonight, these are much smaller in size). I will also check out if I can find the Serial Blaster in here.

The Blasters should be listed at both the snapstream or the SageTV sites. The SageTV site has links to the makers of the cards that they present.

Its working. I tried connecting the cable directly into the Tuner bypassing the cable decoder and I get more or less all channels I want.

Thx for the help G-Omaha.

I just received my Actisys IR-200L (A serial attached Device) and it works just fine with the SageTV configuration.

So, now I have the low channels set up on the tuner (1-71), the high channels (100-998) set as S-Video with the IR Tuner controlling the Cable Box, and channel 999 reserved for Composite Video from my VCR. Every thing works great.

That sounds cool. I will look if I can find that here. I get only 80 channels anyway, and of the 80 i am able to capture 55-60 connecting the cable directly into the tuner.

Have you used the Snapstream Beyond TV3 ?
It seems better than the software i got bundled with the adaptec tuner InterDVR 3.
I will try out the sageTV this weekend.

I tried it and it was nice. I settled with the SageTV primarily because I had already purchased it and I was having problems installing/destalling the Snapstream Software and just simply gave up on it.
