SCREEN GOES Fuzzy, HELP !!!

Thread Starter
Hi all,

i have a dell inspiron 9100 with 3,4 g. CPU P4, 1024 Mem, 100 gig hd and the rest. It works like a charm, but the only problem i have is that my screen goes fuzzy after a while working on the laptop.

It's really random and i can never tell when the problem will occure. I installed windows completely over and tried every Video driver (Dell, ATI, omega) but nothing helps.

Stupid @ dell let me do some stupid things before they send somebody. But using dell's diag (f12 boot) shows no error in hardware.
I think my video card is gone to hell, but then they tell me to leave the i9100 idle in Diag screen and wait when if the problem occures. It doesn't so they say it's a driver probl. That's really helping...

Maybe someone had the same probl like i do?

If you can look @ this screenshots you can see my problem:

Thanks for any help!

Kind regards,

Dfly.

Yeah, looks like a heat related video problem, but I must ask: does the problem replicate on a secondary monitor?

When i connect my 20" IIyama flatscreen on output it shows the same artifacts..

yep, heat problems

Ahm, it can't be heat problems..
Idle or very busy doesn't matter. I now run some defrag and see that the cpu shows 72 Celcius and GPU 60, but no artifacts. It's really strange this.
Fans are running full. So it doesn't matter, if the thinggie is busy or idle and idle temp are 50 celcius.

Any reaction on this?

i had a the first radeon all in wonder and when it did that it was just fried and also my old voodoo card did it too and it was fried.

Well even if not caused by heat that is irrelevant, by replicating itself on an external screen that is at least rudimentory proof that the problem is video card related and not your LCD. Badger Dell for a replacement.

I agree with Stu, It definately looks heat related, a few 8600s with 9600 Pro Turbo graphics cards had the same problem earlier this year.

check these threads...

at the very least, you have a faulty graphics card and dell should replace it for you.

Thanx guys, i will call dell today and demand they replace my card. It's obvious that these are the same symptoms and replacing the card fixed the issure.

Cheers.

Hi!
I've got the same problem, but it only occurs when it's operating with the powerchord unplugged. Issue starts when battery indicator hits 22-20%.
If I reboot the computer, it's back to normal. Haven't investigated it so much, but I wonder if it is some flaw in the Omegadrivers. It never happened when I used the original dell-ati drivers.
But as I said, I haven't had the time to look thoroughly into the matter so for now it's just speculations.

Hi DFly,
I have experienced the same problem once. Just remove your power chord & reinsert it properly. It worked for me. I have no clue what the problem was. I never faced it again.

Does it create this graphic artifacting in safe mode? I would find it odd that it's a hardware problem if you can take a screenshot of the problem lol

My new 8600 did the same thing (a little less messy) just 2 hours ago, I remember that the last time I switched it off with the gpu at 60 celsius after some gaming, dunno if this could have lead to some errors on the next boot.

I tried to recreate the problem but everything runs just fine now. I hope that the card isn't going to fail..

However I never reached temps above 80 celsius on my 9600.

Upgrade the BIOS!

It's the Video Card Bios.

I had this problem, as did many other 9700 mobillity users when i first got my XPS. Graphics would display these anomolies and the comp would lock up on 3-D games randomly. The 9700 cards were bugged at the time for whatever reason, and Dell support released an upgraded BIOS which fixed the problem. IF you haven't upgraded your bios, then I think this will fix your problem. Hopefully that helps.

Uh, the fact that he took a screenshot of it was proof of that

lgriffin is most likely correct. I use a custom bios and when I unplug from my brick, I go corrupt due to the lack of powerplay in my bios. I get a little bit more but the same effect.

the other possibility is either your video memory is bad or the timing is incorrect. Bad video memory can produce a similar effect also. Short story, your video card is defective.
