Best Affordable Video Card for AGP 4X mobo

Thread Starter
I currently have a GeForce 3 Ti500, Athlon XP 1800+ 1.5GHz, 1 GB RAM PC 2100, Maxtor 7200 RPM Hard Drive. I'm pretty sure I've maxed out everything but the video card and CPU for my ABIT KR7A-133R motherboard.

I want to upgrade my video card. For upcoming Doom 3, and maybe buy Farcry.

Would it be a waste to get a good AGP 8X video card for the better GPU?

Also, I can max out at Athlon XP 2100+ if i wanted too, should I?

Thanks

You can always gat an 8x card as long as voltage is not an issue. 4x cards run at 3 volts and 8x cards run at 1.5 volts. If the motherboard supports both, then I say buy a newer 8x card. It will be one less thing you have to buy when upgrading your motherboard / cpu down the line.

i have a geforce4 ti4200 that is lying around here, it's 4X AGP. that might be a pretty good buy.

it's an improvement over the geforce3 ti500, i used to have it. Plus the 4200 is very overclockable. not a huge increase though as it is still a DX8 card. you'll need a DX9 card to run Doom 3 or whatever significantly better. sounds like first you'd wanna upgrade your motherboard, etc. first though.
