The 5660 only holds one hard drive and as you said, it's the 9.5mm one. The 8886 will hold 2, and they're both 9.5mm.

Yeah, lappies are restricted in that sense... I have seen some with a 12.5, but it's rare as can be. That's why it will be sweet when a faster 9.5mm one will come out. If you want to use a 12.5, I recommend an external firewire enclosure. Also, if you are going to buy a 12.5mm drive and use it in an enclosure, you might consider looking for one with less cache and higher speeds (lower latency, lower access times, etc) because firewire and usb2 enclosures generally do not take advantage of the cache to the extent that direct EIDE or other connections do. If anyone has more info, let us know!

actually the 12.5mm i'm referring to lies in an external enclosure - lol
i was wondering if i could put it inside a 5660 if need be

isnt the 2nd media bay(swappable one) on the 5660 capable of taking a secondary HDD ??

i was actually referring to that bay when i said if i could use a 12.5mm drive in it

thx

According to PCTorque you can't put a second hard drive in the 5660 at all... It's the dual batt lappy. The 8886 can have 3 hard drives, lol, but no dual batts. ANyone who has a 5660 with 2 hard drives, please post here to let us know that this info is inaccurate, lol. Thanks!

oh ok

maybe i mistook the FDD for a HDD
should read a little slower

i guess this drive stays in the external enclosure after all - lol

thx anyway

No problem... External enclosures are annoying to carry around, but they're fast too :-) Especially if the hard drive in it is 7200 rpm and on ata133 and etc etc. :-)
