5670 video driver

I had recently recieved my 5670, and I was looking at the driver updates on Sager's site. I have noticed that the updated video driver is around 46 megs! Why is the driver so large? I have been using the driver on the pink cd and it has been working good so far. Is the 46 meg update worth the download, and if so, what does this update consist of, given its size? Thanks!

check version number

If you got yours recently then you will have those new drivers on your CD. Sager is very up to date with its drivers (maybe not so up to date when you compare with ATI).

If you have any doubts then use dxdiag to check the version numbers of your driver and compare with the drivers on the sager website. I am sure they are the same...

But even if they are different - if the ones you have are working then just leave them there...

First of all, video drivers are generally this huge now-a-days. It also includes the ATI control panel, and other "junk".

My rule of thumb is: if it works, DON'T CHANGE IT. There's nothing worse than screwing up video that was working flawlessly. Man, don't I know it.

Cool...thanks for the advice. I bet you saved me a lot of trouble.

I saw that the ATI drivers for my brand-new 5670 were dated 2-28-2003 (version 6.14.1.6307), and Sager's site has one dated April 8th (says it is version 7.84). So I download the huge file (thank goodness for high-speed access), and I install the new driver, and it still has the same old driver number and date listed.

Am I missing something? I want to try out the latest drivers because I want to see if it helps an anti-aliasing problem I have with my CAD software. And I don't want to mess around with any experimental stuff, I need to spend my time using my machine to get work done, not working on the machine.

Thanks...

lol I understand heath

The Sager drivers are the Catalyst 3.2's - I installed them today and I checked the version in dxdiag...

Unless you want to try out the 3.4's which are causing problems on 128MB Radeon 9000 systems...

the drivers on the sager website are 6307 now - try them out...

Now I'm even more confused... I literally just downloaded and installed the drivers from the Sager website. When you say, "the drivers on the sager website are 6307 now - try them out..." , isn't that the drivers I just installed?

Thanks,

I got them like an hour ago lol What about you?

run dxdiag and dlick the display tab - you will find version number on the top right box...if it reads 6307 at the end then you've got the 3.2's...

Read my first post a little more carefully, and you'll see that exact number.

My bad - yep - sagers latest drivers arent any newet than the Cat 3.2's

And by the way - my IRQ problem is solved!!!

no more hangups in BF1942 or F1-2002 !!! It all had something to do with the Catalyst 3.4 drivers!!!

I am soooo happy!!!
