Help please! Questions about r3000z

Hey, I haven't found a definite answer on this yet. Can anybody run Farcry Retail with the r3000z (i.e. the Geforce4 440 Go 64mb, directx8 card)? I don't mind running at lower quality/resolution as long as it does run relatively fine.

Also, I'll likely get the 15.4" screen. Should I get the WXGA (1280x800) or the WSXGA+(1680x1050) for $50 more? I'm on sorta a tight budget. Note, I will be likely watching a lot of dvds and divx movies on this laptop. Can those runs perfectly fine on the notebook?

it should run fine at very low quality...I'm thinking 640x480 or 800x600....plus you need to set it to not stretch (which will look very stupid). So it's technically playable, but practically not.

Depends...what resolution do you use on your desktop and how big is the monitor?

I'm afraid that Farcry will just not load and say that I need a directx9 card. Will that happen?

I'm running a 19" CRT on 1280x1024. But when I went into a fry's, I took a look at the notebook and the 1280x800 seemed kinda stretched. But I don't remember exactly how good it was or not.

yeah you'll probably like the higher-res widescreen better. Actually wait I remember that Farcy does check for that, but my DX8 Ti4200 runs it, so i dunno....Either way, you're not going to be doing any enjoyable farcry gaming with that rig for sure.

so, do you think I should get a r3000T (dedicated graphics, ATI 9600)? The thing that turns me off is that it's P4, which will probably kill the battery and run really hot. Plus, the same configuration as the r3000z, it's about ~$150-200 more.

why do you _need_ a compaq?

No, I just like to get an AMD64 chip for the 64-bit windows coming out this year. I want to order from HP or compaq because of the deals/coupons available.

there are better deals elsewhere, what's your budget?

you need to go at least 1200 to do any gaming on that rig. let me point out your mistakes in your config one by one (look above in quote)

so actualy my config comes out cheaper from the factory. of course dont forget the upgrades:
512mb pc2700 kingston ~$120
Hitachi 7k60 ~$205

then and only then you will be able to game and you will be just above the 1000.
