CL56 Alternative

I notice that everyone on these forums seem to go ahead and reccomend the CL56, which obviously means it's a great laptop. However, personally I really dislike the styling of it. Therefore I have a slight dilemma. I can't decide between the Compal CL56 or the ASUS M6N and the Aopen 1557. Can anyone give a brief breakdown of the pro's and cons of each? I'm looking at a Dothan 1.7 centrino with a 60 gig 7200 rpm drive and about 512 333 ram should do it. Thanks guys.

I used to have an old school Dell way back when their construction was actually decent. I do work at Circuit City, so i'm really turned off by all those laptops cause i know the seddy underbelly of it all. I'm trying to find a good reseller that doesn't have their heads buried neck deep in s**** advertising.

try go-l...Their advertising is the most sincere I have ever seen since the likes of Michael's computers...

if you want styling check out the acer ferrari, looks hot as well as many acer models. companies like IBuyPower.com have great looking notebooks as well and are decently priced.

www.go-l.com i think

The CL56 and Aopen are pretty similar, most people seem to prefer the Cl56 though due to wider availability.

i can see the 1557G being CL56 sytlish equal, well, almost equal.

While not a "looker," the CL56 is by no means ugly. I'd rate it the same looks wise as most Dells. It just don't feel as plasticy cheap as Dells.

Posted of your other thread, just so you know. People don't really like dupicate threads though. Makes things cluttered.

my opinions: (note, they are opinions because in truth these laptops are very similar in all aspects)

cl56 = a little more solid build quality than 1557. i like the clean, even lines in the profile view of a laptop, it makes for even weight distribution when the laptop sits on its side in a case. keyboard is solid and looks better than the 1557's.

1557 = a little better color scheme than cl56. slightly lighter in weight. keyboard is not so good looking (transparent keys) but key travel and response is fine from reviews. does not have a full aluminum cage like the cl56 does on the interior, but is not plagued by heat issues so this may not matter. may get slightly better battery life than cl56 (this is open to debate also).

really, either way you go will be a good choice. mwave offers the cl56 very cheap right now if money factors into the equation for you.

Personally, I hate the Ferrari models, they look ugly. If they'd take off the paint and Ferrari stickers, I'd consider it.
