Dell's manufacturing is moving right along

Dell must be low on orders right now, things seem to be moving very fast. I put my order in on the 12th, and within hours my 8600 was allready built and tested. As of today, the 15th, it has allready been sent to UPS for shipping. They estimated the shipping date to be the 20th, looks like it may be a day or two ahead of time and get out on the 19th (monday)

I caint wait for it to get here.

dell laptops are made in malaysia. The "Boxing stage" is when dell ships them from malaysia to the u.s.

wow....that explains it! I had no idea they were made in Malaysia and then shipped here. I should have known they had outsourced to a foreign country....duh

I should clarify here on what has already been said. All models shipped to North America are generally from the Malaysian plant. Ones for the Asia/ Pacific Region (including good old Oz & NZ) are from the Singapore or Malaysian plant. For the European market there is an Irish plant. Those are the main ones at least.

There is a Singaporean Plant? i know of the malaysian one in penang but i havent heard of the singaporean one. The singapore Sales Reps say that they are built in penang though.

Where are the desktops built? dimensions etc

Same plant as the Laptops generally. Perhaps the Singapore one is just a despatch or parts centre, I'm not sure.... but all my Dell items and friends Dell stuff as well have come from Dell in Singapore.

Occationally US orders are also made in US plants which explains the phenominal 2-3 day total process or building and recieving the laptops

Manufacturing Facilities depend on your region and on the type of system that you order. Usually, Inspirons, Latitudes, and Desktops are manufacutred in the Malaysia, Singapore plant. The Precision Workstations are manufactured in Limmerick. And as mentioned, all systems meant for Europe is manufactured in Limmerick. Those meant for Asia, Africa, North America, Latin America, and the Carribean are manufactured in Malaysia. However, sometimes, depending on facility loads, systems can be manufactured in other facilities. Also, the systems that are manufactured within the US are meant for corporate or Large Businesses as these shipments can reach their destination very quickly. Also, the Memphis, Nashville, and Texas plants are also used for systems that have shipping addresses close to these plants.

I think mine may have been built in Texas.....first of all the tracking information is coming from Texas, and the entire process was completed in 3 days from the time I ordered it to placement on the delivery truck. But who knows...I don't care as long as I get my computer quickly and the way I ordered it.

I ordered a 600m on Sunday too, and it's still in boxing as of Thursday 7/22. What was your estimated ship date? Mine is still mon 7/26.

my estimated ship date was july 26th, but it will be delivered here tomorrow (!).

did you have any parts in yours that would delay shipping? it's possible, too, that the web site isn't up-to-date.
