Ati M10

This was taken from "kchakkar" on the dell boards:

Here's a list of interesting facts taken down by Joe DeFuria at B3D

DX9 notebook part in Spring. (M10)

Attitude is "Capture the Flag" (technology leadership) and hold on to it. No "one shot wonders." Continue to drive that technology into lower cost segments.

Based on what they saw at Comdex (NV30). ATI feels very good about their lineup through the spring when they'll introduce some new products, up to the R400 in the Summer (post July).

ATI is trying to continue its "revolutionary" tech / product introduction on a 12 month cycle, with a "kicker" in between (at about the 6 month point.)

When asked if ATI might unleash the R350 to pre-empt the NV30 given NV30 expected availability in Feb, Orton said something like R350 will be ready for "spring"...but said he was keeping "exactly when in spring" close to his vest...and it likely depended somewhat on exactly what the competition produces and when.

Sounds like R400 is expected to be introduced sometime "after July".

Integrated chipset solution strategy: target notebook market first, then migrate to PC market. Claims ATI's integrated solutions captured 18% of notebook market in 8 weeks...about 50/50 AMD/Intel platforms. Expect ATI to start to really push desktop integrated solutions next summer. (Will still concentrate on notebooks for now.)

ATI did not want to be held hostage by memory tech for its bandwidth, and was the reason to go to 256 bit bus. Feels that they have a lot of overhead against the competition for the "spring performance benchmarks"...given they have both 256 bit bus and DDR-II to draw from.

I can't wait for Ati to release its new mobile chip....
I'm praying it is sometime before February since that is when I plan to get me a 5660

Ah yes. Everyone is hyped about the next nvidia mobile chip, lol, but my gosh I can't imagine how much battery life it's gonna kill. Besides, in mobile computers, ATI is king. Even in desktops I tend to like their cards better. The radeon 9000 performs better on my friend's computer than his geforce4 ti4600... Yeah, the benchmarks show the geforce a lil higher, but in actual games it looks SO MUCH NICER with the ati. Even in games that are optimized for nvidia. I'm an ATI guy all the way.

I don't tend to favor a particular company. For me, its all about the benefits that this type of competition brings to the consumer (better quality products and lower prices) So in the end, the company that has the better cost/performance solution gets my bucks...

Agreed, the competition is great to have. What I meant was that once nvidia comes out with something better, the card that was on top from ATI gets so cheap and it's still incredible. The radeon 9000, for example, is costing me $95 shipped and it will destroy much more expensive nvidia counterparts (like the MX series, lol). Nvidia prices don't tend to go down like ATI's do... But I own an nvidia card and I would not hesitate to buy one of theirs if it was a better price for better performance. :-) Long live competition!

re

even with my 8200 inspiron which i upgraded from a geforce64go 64 to the ati m9 i was 1 inch away from ordering a 8886 but when i had read about the m10 and 4200 go i decided to just wait i honestly just want a desktop proceser sager with the m10 that would fufill my needs for a year or so. when the m10 is availible ill be the first to order from PCTORQUE adam which happens to be my name as well seems to really be on top of things its amazing the instant replys and his honest answers
honest theres no PC company u could buy a computer from today and have that kind of response even if he didnt have all the answers he can get in touch with people who do alot faster and that kind of PR is Unreal to the 10th power..

Well put :-) And yeah, an M10... wow :-) Can't smile enough. The prospect is just incredible, especially since I'm running on an M7, which is still a great card, but it's not an M9, lol, and definitely nothing like what the M10 will be. I don't want the 4200 go, lol, it requires a converter and some other stuff to work on a lappy mobo and it's a power drain. Like poking a hole in the Sager's battery... the last thing these big beasts need :-)

a small bit of info on the M10 (or at least what appears to be the m10):

Lol, thanks for the linkage... It was kinda a vague article, I guess just to let people know something is happening. Good to see ATI on the move :-) Can't wait to see what their next mobile card is capable of!

The M10 may be here even sooner than I'd hoped. ATI recently said their next product will be a mobile card:

"As Nvidia starts adopting the 0.13-micron process, its major rival ATI Technologies has also prepared to move toward 0.13-micron production. According to sources, ATI chairman and CEO Ho Kwok-yuen recently made a quiet visit to TSMC to evaluate the new process, and the company is planning to begin volume production of its first 0.13-micron RV350 chip by the end of this month"
