I'm back. for an upgrade to higher ram, faster hd, and 128 mb gpu, would raise sony's ugly price to over 3000-3200.

True but a spec'd out IBM T42p, nc8000/nw8000 comes within that same price range. Surely some people may prefer the build quality and/or support of IBM and HP over IBM, but the 17" Vaio A is a nice package. Nonetheless, I spent 3k on my ABS (currently 4 years old), so I am not unfamilar with spending that type of money for a system. I do think IBM, HP business and Sony tend to be overpriced!!!!!

I do like Clevo/Sager/PCT products! Still considering getting the 4750
post #103 of 714
Well, I can't wait to see how much the follow up version of the 3760 will be. Probably about $500 less than a comparable Sony A170? Sony way over charges for upgrades from the base system. Sager and PCTorque do not.

As posted in a thread about the new 9800.

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=17463

The article brings up the point of physics. How are you going to cram this huge chip into even a medium sized notebook? Not gonna happen unless they get real crafty. I hope it can be done because I want a Medium sized notebook with this gpu. I'm sure if someone can do it it would be Sager.

Eh I've given up on the 9800, not practical.

So when does this laptop come out again

All's I can say, guys, is WOW!! I've been on hiatus for the last 10 days (10 days without this forum was giving me the fits, although the fact I was sunning myself in Maui helped abit) and I am very pleased to see this thread growing! Keep up the good work!

Adam, Luke . . . when's this baby coming to your website? Give the ravenous pack here a morsel, albeit wafer thin!

where did u stay in maui?
Stayed on Ka'anapali Beach. Absolutely beautiful. We rented an oceanfront condo, 2 bedroom, 2 bath, full kitchen, huge balcony . . . the works. Place was the Ka'anapali Ali'i. Was very impressed. I've been to Oahu 3 times previous and didn't think I could like any other island as much. Man, was I missing out on alot! Maui beats Oahu hands down. It's really a wonderful place to take kids (we have 3), but I wouldn't mind just me and the missus going next time, too. McKnight, have you been? In my mind, it's the closest thing to paradise I've ever experienced.

Okay, back on track. Did a little comparison pricing between Eurocom and PC Torque/Sager. You can do the math yourself, but, PCT's computers, similarly equipped, have traditionally ran about 75% of Eurocom's prices. Sooo, I configured the following on the Eurocom site:

EUROCOM M37EW MILANO $3558.00 USD
Summary
Base
System15.4-inch Wide-Screen WUXGA 1920-by-1200 pixels EUROCOM Milano M37EW w/128MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9700$1,949.00
Video ConferencingBuilt-in WebCam (CCD) 640x480 pixels$50.00
Bluetooth ModuleNone - Choose from the options below
Wireless WLAN 802.11b/g WLAN - internal miniPCI - Intel® PRO Wireless 2200$79.00
Memory1GB (2x 512MB) DDR400 PC3200 200pin - 2 SODIMM$360.00
ProcessorIntel® Pentium® M at 2.0 GHz; Dothan 90nm; 2MB cache; FSB400$680.00
Hard Drive 40GB (2.5'') 5,400rpm w/ 8MB cache
Internal Card Reader4-in-1 Card Reader (SD/MS/MMC/MS-Pro)
Optical Drive4x Multi DVD (DVD-RAM/+-RW/-RW) Burner with Software - slot based $205.00
Operating System Windows XP Professional (OEM Edition) - ENGLISH$165.00
Keyboard (Language)Keyboard - U.S. English
Additional SoftwareNone - Choose from the options below
Standard Battery (internal)12-cell Smart Li-Ion battery - approx 6 hours$70.00
Standard AC Adapter 65W auto-switching AC Adapter
Warranty1 Year Return to Factory Depot

If my conversion factor stays true with this model as well, PCT's offering, with the same specs, should run about $2700. Not too shabby, eh?

I cannot wait for this puppy to get here!

Edit: need to ammend my Eurocom specs to include 60Gb, 7200rpm hard drive. This'll add abit more to their offering . . . . Still a good deal if PCT sticks to their usual range in comparison.

i think the cam is built in and its included if you don't pay. i think they are just trying to scam 50 out of the buyer.
and why should they charge for the wireless too - since when u claim centrino the wireless is supposed to be included
post #111 of 714

that's true. but it seems a lot of companies pull that scam as well. or offer it as a special so you think your getting something for free.

Cmon Sager, what's the hold up? I've given up on the DTR idea, and I want this thing in time for my comp graphics class!
Eeen: pretty funny how your original designs on your lappy purchase have changed, isn't it? I am soooooo thankful for this forum. Since I've been checking it daily for the last 4 or so months, my laptop specs have done a 180. I found this site while researching for the ultimate "muscle-car" DTR notebook -- Google pointed me here after tripping over the 8790. I've gone from drooling over the 8790/GX7 to being certain my next puchase would be Rincewind's Compal to deciding ("this time's for sure") on the 4750/AX7 to, now, patiently awaiting for my soulmate, this new Clevo, to be offered by PCT. I can say with certainty, this one will be my next laptop . . . that is, unless something else with everything I want on it that I don't even know I want yet is coming out before this model hits our shores. Sigh. Funny, huh?

P.S.-- Anyone heard of a lappy coming this way with the PM 755 and 9800?
I dont think any small laptops will have the 9800. Only big ones like the the 8790. We dont know yet if clevo will make a version for the 9800, or just stay to PCI express, which they were originally planning on doing.

Your'e probably correct as tomorrow is Sunday; maybe, the day after that.

In fact, all laptop production in the world is going to be ceased immediately, by government decree. Gaming will be outlawed and everyone will be forced to downgrade to Windows 3.1.
