Mitac 8050 and the ASUS M6BNE (Is there really a difference?)

Thread Starter
I've taken a liking to the wide screen laptops even though it may be a pain carrying it to class (more excersise i guess). Therefore, *gasp* I think the CL56 has been taken out of the running due to it's gradient screen. So, what do you guys thing? Is the Mitac with the Radeon 9700 128 mb a huge advantage over the ASUS or will it come down to the over all constrution of the laptop? Oh and where is a nice place to get them other than ABS cause I get shafted with 9.25% tax in TN.

Basic Specs:
1.7 Dothan
512 2700 ram
60 gig 7200

Thanks in advance guys

Teehee, I'm in TN too!

Got my M6Ne from alphapcstore, which is way out in cali.

Asian computer store = best bargain. Barebone CL56 for $799, M6NBe for $904, and Aopen 1557G for $849.

A little slow in processing (3 days, because they had to take out the cdrw..) but shipped UPS in 2 days for free. They have standard packaging (no extra packing peanuts), but the OEM box from ASUS is safe enough.

No dead pixels.

To anyone who has seen them both, how does the M6Ne WXGA screen compare to the Mitac 8050 screen in terms of brightness and viewing angle?

so the barebone comes with a mobo ,etc???? if so , then whats left to put in the laptop ? ram ? thas it?? does asus give a 1 yr manufacturers warranty on the barebone??
You need to buy at least the CPU, RAM, and HDD to add to the barebone. (better to get them elsewhere since assembly is usually an extra $150-200)

There's a 3year extended warranty available.
you'll also need to buy an optical drive and wireless card
post #9 of 14
you can get a 3yr warantee on barebones? how and where?
i asked computerlinksystems twice on how warranties work on barebones... and no response both times... whereas when i ask for quotes i'll get responses within 30min... err

the hardware manual for the M6N series says any replacement/installation of cpu/ram/wireless card voids the warranty unless done by authorized retailer... kinda contradicts the possibility of buying additional warranty on barebones

anyone who assembled their own asus care to comment?
I got mine from alphapcstore with only the CPU installed.

Bought the 3 year warranty.

Didn't get the optical drive, but the barebone box comes with cdrw, so had to let the reseller take it out in order to not void the warranty.

Do you have the link to that manual?
u cen get the manual from asus's website...
look at page 57 with title "Notebook PC Upgrades"
the last line on the page says
Quote:
WARNING! End-user removal of the CPU or hard disk drive will void the warranty.
Edit: on page 18, under title "Memory Compartment"...
Quote:
Memory installation/upgrades must be done by an authorized retailer or service center. The warranty does not allow user installation or upgrades.
All of this don't make sense if they offer extended warranties on barebones... err
post #13 of 14
is it easy to insert / put in all this stuff for a person who has fair knowledge about such components but hasnt really assembled / put these components in their respective places ( except ram ) ??
One thing to consider on the CL56 barebone is you need a frame to mount the drive. It's not exactly cheap either.

I had to buy one extra and it ended up costing me more than just buying the optical drive with the unit. However, if you want to be sure of the drive you're getting, it may be worth it.

Just something to consider.

Super
