I bought a brand new Sager 8790. I am so pleased with its huge screen and built in webcam and tv tuner.
But I am having trouble with my dial up connection. First of all it takes too long to connect, like about a minute of whining (unlike my friend's desktop which does the same in about 10 secs) and then the connection gets disconnected every couple of minutes or so. Especially when I am trying to open a fresh page on IE, the connection breaks off and then the redial window opens up. I dialing in to a university connection. Usually after the first lost connection, it fails to reconnect. Since I am not a whiz, I try the most obvious thing which is to restart windows. Then there is no problem for a while, but it starts again. My friends desktop is slower, has a slower modem, but the settings are similar and it has no connection issues at all. And my brand new superfast laptop is letting me down. I know this sounds like a very lay description of the problem, but can anyone please provide any leads to start looking for the problem? Thanks.
Could it be IE and MSN Messenger that is causing it? I am trying Mozilla too but it is not any better either.
Thanks again.
