Acer 2012 resale value?

This is for mostly for kevhuynh, my Acer 2012 prophet, but it's open to any other owners who'd like to comment as well.

I'm okay with the fact that buying an Acer is pretty much a one-way road, without the possiblity of refund and all, I just wanted to know what you think the resale value of the 2012WLMi is? Good? Poor?

I'm not looking to make a sultan's horde of gold, I just want to know whether, by the time the Alviso chips ship, I'll be able to sell this thing off without losing a bundle.

No.

Notebooks have a notoriously high depreciation. This is mostly due to new models being constantly introduced with better and better features and lower and lower prices. Why would anyone pay more for a used machine with less features than what they can get new?

Ah, but what I upgraded it out of the box? Aha! lol

I was actually planning on putting in a 1.7 P-M Dothan, 7k60 HDD, and maybe upping the RAM, so I guess my question should have been:

What's the typical resale value for a user-modified notebook that isn't completely blown away by the market's current crop?

half of what you initially bought it at? after 1 and 1/2 or 2 years that is.

that's just from my experience....

I got a toshiba laptop for $3000CAN when it came out 18 months ago, and now I doubt I can even get $1500 for it. But again, I am sure I can get a lot better laptop now for just $2000, since prices are getting lower.

Same with my desktop computer. Dropped half the price after around the same time.

And thats to be expected with any sort of electronics, especially computers. Sure, there could be some exceptions, but thats just really what happens in 'general'.

Brand new ones on Ebay go for $1100-$1250. Depends where you sell it and when.

Macs hold their value well (in comparison) ... but then you're using a mac...
