Necessary Software?

Although I've been using computers for more than a decade, I've been using the same basic organizational system for as long as I can remember. Whenever I got a new computer or master hard drive I just moved everything from the old one to the new one.
Well, I just formatted everything that isn't music or... yeah mostly music.
I'm wondering if the community has any suggestions on what software to install ASAP on my A51-m. It hasn't come yet, but it'll be here between this coming tuesday and wednesday.
Off the top of my head, I'm going to slap on AIM, Steam, Photoshop, CuteFTP, mIRC, Office2k3, and Norton's Anti-Virus (latest ver.)
If anyone knows of any programs that bolster stability or just keep your computer safe, let me know!

Norton's Anti-Virus (latest ver.) tsk tsk thats program is awful It "forgets" about some virus. its guard takes up so much resouces. grisoft.com (avg_free) is far better!

some form of spyware removal and a firewall, and i personally use mcafee virus scan enterprise, not intrusive at all and i set it to update and scan overnight while i'm sleeping

IMO,

Webroot Spy Sweeper is a must. I think its still a free download. If not, Costco, Compusa, Walmart, etc has it for $20-$30

I have not found that it really takes up any resources that I'm in need of.

I also am a firm believer in a Linksys G Router. It not only allows wireless access for my 51M, but has a fairly sophisticated firewall.

I have not had one virus since implementing these two items. Thats a good thing!

Worth looking into.

Don't put AIM or AOHELL on there, use Trilllian for IMing.
