When did you mail it Gary? I ordered mine late on a monday and had it bright and early wednesday. Unfortunately I sent it back after 2 weeks ground shipping so they won't even get it til thursday. I figured all the extra time I could just spend doing more research and reading reviews..I want to know how well this unit over clocks..and of course benchmarks..Only took a few trips to best buy to lay my eyes on a 17 inch screen to make me know that 15'' would bug me.

No time for a full review right now, but let me tell you, this thing gets HOT. It's sitting on my lap right now and is quite hot on the bottom.

I ran through the 3DMark01 Demo, and when I got done, the CPU temp had peaked at about 70 Celcius. Ouch. The bottom of the video card gets the hot to the touch, while the battery actually becomes hot enough to burn something.

The keyboard of the Laptop gets moderately warm. Below the keyboard gets considerably warmer, including the touchpad, which luckily the tips of my fingers aren't very sensitive to heat.

I can actually feel the warmth radiating from this 4750, and the battery life absolutely blows the big one, but luckily for me, neither of these factors make much of a difference.

One more thing, the fans are quite quiet in my opinion. Of course, I'm used to my jet engine of a desktop, so I'm a little biased.

stupid chassis, they should have fixed this. o well, no biggie. heat is the price you pay for power and portability, i'll just put it on ice, that should do it

12651 3DMarks (3DMark 2001)

All setting default, nothing overclocked, ATI Omega drivers.

Don't quite know how that stacks up to other laptops, but it's a pretty good score.

Default clock speed of the M11 is 472Mhz (Core), 249Mhz (Memory).

not bad at all
yikes... I'm worried about the heat...
are those impressions from after the bechmark, or does it get that hot just idling...
also, 70C, that's way too much (more than Jets)... have you got Powernow running properly?

Thats not really true considering the 8790 has no heat issues... They really should have redesign that chasis or something to cover that problem. I wouldn't mind the heat so much but heat does screw with your GPU and since I plan to game.. that is not a good thing...

if its too hot i might be sending it back

aw is coming out with a amd 64 bit laptop if that one doesn't have heat probs i might go for it buh first choice wud still be sagar from pctorque if the heat isn't to bad

again its a desktop replacement. expect it to be hot. that's one of the tradeoffs. it doesn't seem like the keyboard gets that hot.
mayaman2 i know its a dtr but still the 8790 doesn't even run that hot if only they upgraded the chasis to something like the 8790's maybe it could run cooler
post #36 of 100
i have read that the sager 5690 ran rather hot as well. on guy returned it because it gave his son heat rash.

3504 3DMarks (3DMark 2003), default setting, no overclocking, Omega ATI drivers.

Let me put some of your minds to ease. I'm sitting in a 70 Degree F room, my 4750 is sitting on a peice of hard wood on my lap (for ventilation), and it's running quite cool right now. The CPU is sitting at a comfortable 50 C, and the keyboard is just a little warm on the left side. The loud fans kick on at 70 C, and the temperature drops very rapidly when it does. According to MobileMeter, critical temperature is 155 C! I hope it doesn't get that hot ever!

I'm gonna run it through it's paces now with some UT2004, and find out just how hot it'll get during intense gaming. As of right now, sitting at idle, it's quite comfortable. Just need to make sure it can breathe.

That's a relaxing thought.

50 is still kinda hot the 8790 stays at 30-40?

well if it gets to be too much of a problem there is a 30 day return limit.
