Can't install the 6200 drivers on my 8886!! (nightshade?) - Page 2

post #21 of 39
Redundant gave this info on another thread:

"I found the radeon_7.79b2_9x_xp.rar

http://www.hardsite.dk/

where they have a list of mirrors that you can cut and paste. It is the same driver that Nightshade was talking about and I have it installed on my 8886."

I haven't checked, but hopefully it's easy to find and access. Thanks!

Thats actually the exact page I got the drivers from, so those are the right ones.

Nice to see someone found it again, no need for me to upload 6mb on my 56k now.

Sweetness, glad to hear they are the right ones. So those are up and NS got the instructions up :-) All set for future driver seekers. NS, what did you say was the difference in the 6200C drivers? You said it had different options? Anything of use or interest? Thanks a ton for all of your help!

I am probably just being redundant here, but this caused me some confusion, and it may help some other folks.

When I downloaded ATI's drivers, I first tried to run the setup.exe program. This does some work, then fails with two messages:

1) INF error Video driver not found
2) something about removing your current display drivers

The solution is rather simple. Instead of relying on the setup.exe program to do all your work, you should do what NightShade has been saying all along:

1) Go to your device manager (start -> settings -> control panel -> system. Choose Hardware tab. Click on device manager)
2) Expand "Display Adapters", and double-click the current display device (something like "Generic VGA" if you have not yet installed a driver, or "Radeon 9000" if you have)
3) Go to Driver tab, and click on Update Driver
4) Choose "Install from a list or specific location (advanced )", and click next
5) Choose "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install", and click next
6) Click "Have Disk", browse to the "Driver" directory of your ATI driver download, and click OK
7) From the list of supported video cards, select the second "Radeon 9000" (again, as per NightShades previous instructions)

Sorry if this was completely unnecessary, but it may alleviate future confusion.

Good luck!

Eh?

no no no onononononononnonoo

no

If there isnt an option for the Moblilty Radeon 9000 then you have the wrong drivers.........

If it has Radeon 9000 but no Moblitity Radeon 9000 then you have the 6200C...

Java report back if its there or not......

If not ill upload the drivers myself.....

Though, to install them do exactly what Java said.

Nothing is ever completely unnecessary :-) It was a nice detailed way of saying it, just as Nightshade posted only with some of the smaller intermediate steps, and apparently about a different set of drivers, as Nightshade picked up on. If anyone has trouble installing said drivers, or any drivers, please post and you will definitely get help with these good people :-)

Actually, you dont even need to do that, I just tried, and you can install the drivers from the setup file and it works (asks if you want to install a Mobility Radeon 9000).

But, Im not going to upload them now as they are 18.5mb and Im on 56k.

Going to have to wait till monday to use the College net.

Aw crap. The drivers I am using are the brand new (actually leaked) 6218 drivers.

Let me go through the process again, and see if the Mobility Radeons are there. (Though, I am currently using the second "Radeon 9000"s as stated earlier, and they are doing fine)

I'll get back to you.

Well I can definitely say that no ATI setup program has worked for me. Not the 6200, not the 6200C, and definitely not tyhe 6218. On each, the setup failed with the same error. (However, the drivers shipped with the CD did work from the setup - go figure)

Not sure why our experiences would be different.

Oh well. Off to re-download the 6218 drivers.

Wierd.........

You must have a strange or not true version of the original 6200's..... maybe that page was updated.....

OK - I think I've got it all sorted out now. The 6200 Drivers available direct from ATI (http://mirror.ati.com/support/drivers/powered.html - select the "CATALYST RADEON 2.4 (7.79) Display Drivers" link)
does not directly support the Mobility Radeon 9000.

The drivers posted earlier on this thread (http://www.hardsite.dk/) appear to be the same drivers (at least they both report to be v. 6-13-10-6200), but these *DO* have direct support for the mobility chip.

Some newer drivers (http://www.prodigyweb.net.mx/castill...t-ati-7.80.exe) are like the drivers from ATI - they do not support the mobility chip directly.

If you like to tweak and play, then give the non-mobility drivers a shot - I am using them now as I type. Otherwise, either stick with the drivers bundled with the laptop, or give the 6200 from hardsite a go.

Again, good luck.

The first ones listed in java's post (from ATI) are the 6200C, although they are labeled 6200, and as NS said, they do not support the mobile card by listing it. The second link is for the 6200 that NS has installed and do have the M9 listed... The newer drivers are the ones leaked from ATI (at least I think that's what that link leads to, if not, it's just the 6200C again). Follow the instructions on the previous pages for installation and post if you have trouble or suggestions! Thanks!

Figured that out by loading them into your imaginary Sager, did ya ? That link in fact points to ATI's reference 6200 Drivers (no "C" at the end).

That link leads to driver version 6218.

If you truly are interested in the 6200C drivers, you can find them here: http://pdownload.mii.instacontent.ne...0-6200-efg.exe

All my info was gathered from http://www.driverheaven.net/, or by actually loading the drivers in question. I'm sure there are many other places online to do similar research.

lol, my imaginary sager :-) But I said that first thing cuz the 6200c drivers don't actually have a c written after them in some cases, it's the date that makes the difference. The ones on ATI's website, last time I checked, was that of the C drivers. If driverheaven says differently, I will obviously differ to them :-) The newer ones leaked from ATI are the 6218, so it's good to see a link for them. Thanks for the clarification and the plethora of links :-) I'll do better when I buy myself a sager, lol, I promise.

My scores with 6200 drivers

3Dmark scores with 6.13.10.6178 drivers

1024x768x32=7010
1024x768x16=7664

and with 6.13.10.6200 drivers

1024x768x32=7104
1024x768x16=7667

As you can see, on my 5660 not much of a gain, so needless to say its roll back time to the signed 6.13.10.6178 drivers.

As far as Bf1942 goes enough is enough, i'm tried of being a BETA tester for EA's crap. I'm having the same issues on both of my comps since the 1.2 patch, with the random in game freeze and reboots. So its off to the local game store to trade off this POS game for a stick of bubble gum...LOL...not\rant off
post #37 of 39
THat's weird, lol. Battlefield 1942 is my favorite multiplayer game of all time :-) I run it with the patch using daemon tools so I don't have to carry around the cd. It's an excellent game, and quite stable on my ATI M7 with max details and 32 bit color... nay a frame skipped. I have heard that EA gets major problems with many people's computers. I guess it depends on luck, lol, which is not a good way to make a game :-)

Well . . .

I installed these drivers on my 8886. Before my 3d score was 6884 or something. Now it's up to 7284. All I did was change the drivers.

amazing. thanks guys
post #39 of 39
Lol, glad to hear it! I will definitely have to get those and use them on the 8886... Best of luck to you!
