the battery liffe on a AMD 64 is better than a P4 but not as good as centrino, you will get ~2 hrs.

I wish the 'rubber grips' came in silver, that would look awesome.

But anyways, the new Aurora notebook looks like it shows alot of promise! Go Alienware!

Whoa, when did this go up on their site? Those crazy AW people - always surprising us with something new =) Let's just hope they surprise us with pci-express!

I think it looks kind of ugly

ya looks mucho ugly, but its still cool.

One thing on that site cought my eye:
"Since the Aurora-64m features an LCD with a rapid 20ms response rate, “ghosting” is not an issue."
That's a fairly nice improvement over the a51m2's LCD.

However, I must say, DAMN THAT LAPTOP IS UGLY! They should have stuck with the existing (Uniwill, is it?) chassis, because this new one looks like they dragged a 386 into the 21st century.

I wonder when these are going to be shipping. Any word or guesses on when it could be? I was planning on ordering my Area51M this week, but now I am torn.

another clevo???

is this a clevo??? i should buy the current n7666 model now before it last. alienware is now headed for clevo????

The old Area-51 was a Clevo chassis.

Considering that the A51m2 uses a DESKTOP P4, and the Aurora-m64 uses a MOBILE Athlon64, I think it stands to reason that the old A51m2 will be a faster notebook. The am64 will have longer battery life though.

The am64's only serious advantage (other than possibly longer battery life) is the lower response rate on the LCD. Other than that, it's slower, and butt-ugly.

True that... but I don't see any ghosting on my lapper, I win!

From that page, there is a Uniwill 766 (The chassis the Area-51m2 uses) with an Athlon64, proving that Alienware DID NOT have to change to this new butt-ugly chassis for the Aurora-m64, they could have used the same chassis as the A51m2.

Pictures proving it:
