Hi,

Thank you for your enquiry about Alienware Computers.

The Aurora-64m should be available very soon, by the end of August or
early September. At present the configuration will not include the
MR9800. It will come with an integrated Radeon Mobility 9700. The
Aurora-64m, like all AMD based systems at present, does not support
PCI-X. We are releasing an 8 x DVD +/- RW for mobile systems within
the coming weeks and the Aurora-64m will most likely include this
shortly after launch.

Above is all the information I know for certain at present. However,
I assure you Alienware will carry the MR9800 very soon as it is the
top spec Video Card available on the market and Alienware prides
itself on offering the top spec products to our customers.
Unfortunately, at present, there is no solid information on possible
launch dates so it is difficult to give you a timeframe but it will
happen soon.

I hope I have answered your queries and if you have any further
queries please don't hesitate to contact us.

Most of the info above is probably nothing new (i haven't read all the posts in this thread ) but i hope it helps

if it does come down to a 64 bit processor with an integrated ati 9700 or a P4 with an mr9800 i know what side of the line i stand on

whats everybody else's thoughts on this? 64bit with 9700 or P4 with mr9800?

ps: i heard people expressing their fears that the aurora 64 bit would not have the ability to upgrade the graphics card. above the guy typed integrated. maybe that answers the question ...

I'm sorry to see that Alienware does not know the difference between PCI-X and PCI-E(xpress). I'm similarly disappointed to see that the mr9800 is not part of a "new" high performance system... Of course, I *might* rather have the as-yet-unavailable go6800 (go6600?).

I hope you're kidding.

PCI-X = PCI-Extended
PCI-E = PCI-Express

One comparison article found with Google, you should be able to find others if you want.

Integrated graphics card??!

I doubt I'll go for the Aurora-64m if it'll only come with the 9700 and have no option whats ever of going the 9800 route. What's the point of a faster cpu if you're stuck with the 9700...

That depends on how long the piece of string is. The last I heard from AW was that something was going to happen around September, but they didn't mention a specific card just that something was going to happen.

On a side not, an Irish 4th year College Student, seems we've more in common then a desire for mr9800 to appear

i knew i saw eire on someones location before. are u a college student too? (i'm not really a fourth year till september - just finished 3 years and one to go)

Hey guys, this is my second post. I've decided to wait for the 64m laptop as well. Keep me updated!!
remember twilight, the aurora64-m is NOT coming out with ATI's mr9800 256 MB graphics card, which makes it fairly average (with the ATI 9700 128 MB card), it may not be worth it, i'm waiting till the area51-m come out with the mr9800
post #133 of 192
That's true *wheres the barfing face emoticon?* You have any speculation on when the mr9800 is going to be available on the area 51m, because I'd rather have that...

another thing that is really bothering me is that i have to leave for school on September 29th...which means if I wait I wont even have a computer the first couple of weeks....eeek!
i'm in the same boat as you except i live at home and go to college
i have no idea when the mr9800 is coming out and it hasn't been for lack of trying
i emailed alienware.com about it yesterday and i'm waiting for a reply.
i told them that i can't wait past 4 weeks (which is kinda true) and i'd opt for dell if i had to or didn't find out in the mean time.
i'll post what they say if its useful (ie not the usual "this is a classified matter, you need level g14 clearance to be able to access this information at this time )
i notice that when alienware launch something it pretty much appears. theres no initial coverage or dates, which is very disappointing considering people going back to college and needing laptops etc.
Im pretty disappointed with their lack of new technology. Every other laptop manufacturer has 256 mbs of video memory and athlon 64s, shouldnt alienware? Come on guys this is your area of business.
Who has an AMD64 with 256 megs of video ram?
i seen some mobile cards with 256 megs of ram (not integrated) but not with the amd 64 mobile, maybe its only on intel mobo's ...

i was wondering craig, if you have any advive on getting an alienware area51-m laptop (i'm waiting for the ati mr9800). any advive would be appreciated

ps don't say get an extreme edition chip: students can't afford those
post #138 of 192
So wait, we wouldnt ever be able to upgrade to the 9800 with the amd 64s?

We will be with the current chipset right?
